Okay, so I've felt hypo for the past week. Friday I bought cigars and beer even though I don't drink or smoke. I burned one cigar, took a sip of beer, then threw the entire contents of both away and went home and laid in bed until I fell asleep. I thought that was going to be my peak high, which I'm pretty sure was still just hypomanic, however last night I got really freaked out. I suddenly started feeling REALLY sped up, to the point where I felt like I was loosing touch with reality. I felt like I was in a movie, and things seemed to be moving more slowly. I had a ridiculously high sex drive to the point where I wanted to have sex with anything that moved, and had my friends not been there I feel like I would have gone and done something crazy. I really felt like I was losing it, which is something I've never experienced before. I've come down since then, though still for sure hypo, but I'm just starting to wonder if I very briefly peaked into full blown mania for a couple of hours. What does mania feel like to you guys that get it?

no this felt more extreme than my usual hypomania, i'm just not sure if it was severe hypomania or dipping into full blown mania briefly. i felt out of touch with reality. like i wasn't having fun anymore.

sounds like it... but sounds like it scared you. You made it through ok, didn't make some big mistake.
if you're worried about psychosis you can tell your pdoc about it and get more medicated. but it's not usually like, here you can take this for if that happens again. no it's like here now you can take this anti-psychotic every day from now on. |

Did you have any extra caffeine or sugar?
For me, once I cross the line from hypomania to mania there's no going back. |

Renner, you need to do a self-check on your diet for the days immediately prior to what you believe might have been a short manic attack.
Please go to http://rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm check off the foods which you ate for several days prior to the attack. Did you eat more foods from the alkaline list or from the acid list? (I'm guessing that you ate more from those llisted on the acidic-reacting foods, and I think you're going to find that you will need to cut back on some of those acidic residue causing foods to slow down and even prevent the manic episodes. If you had been particularly depressed prior to the episode, it's possible that you were shifting into a hypomanic state in reaction to depression. It's so very important to keep your fluids and tissues in a slightly more alkaline state than an acidic one. For starters, put yourself on a lemon once a day for a couple of days. Cut it in half and squeeze it into a glass of ice cold water. While the lemon is very acidic in taste (it is a citric acid food), its digestion leaves an extremely alkaline ash (alkaline residue) which is healthy for the liver, kidney, and fluids in maintaining a good alkaline balance in your fluids and tissues. It improves feeling tone remarkably by calming the emotions. Pleast get on a research project for yourself to find out what you should be eating and what you should be avoiding. I can tell you in the interim that you need to be having a fresh green salad every day and cutting back on beef, adding more fish and lamb to your diet. Eat more green vegetables and try removing anything with caffeine in it from your diet. Avoid white flour products. Add a fatty acid capsule to your diet: one that contains 3-6-9 fatty acids. (They are known now to help calm the brain--I suspect that it has to do with removing acids from around brain cells, which natural (not refined) sea salt will do, also. In fact, I'd give up the salt shaker you're currently using unless you are using Himalayan sea salt or one from France or Hawaii. They do make a big difference over time in your feeling tone. I know it sounds authoritative, but it isn't meant to be. I know from experience what works and what helps, and it might be beneficial for you, too, depending on your chemistry makeup. It's worth a diligent try, I'd say. Those ideas will get you started. Good wishes, Genetic Last edited by anonymous8113; Sep 24, 2012 at 12:17 AM. |

I've only had a few manic episodes. One was very SEVERE. I was super irritable, didn't have any control over my actions or decisions..in fact, I don't remember the majority of it. It lasted about 2 weeks and I was randomly mumbling nonsense and I was hallucinating. Everyone thought that I suddenly started taking hard drugs. I had a more mild one about a week ago. I decided that I was going to fly to San Diego out of the blue on Sept 29th. I felt super smart and capable of anything (which I kind of proved that I am). For the next 2 days, the ONLY thing I did was work on getting myself plane tickets. I called every single airline asking them about donated air miles, I called every military organization to try talk them into flying me there because my younger brother is a marine and he's stationed in San Diego. I was so ridiculously into this one thing and I even looked up celebrities that were huge supporters of the troops (Charlie sheen, Denzel, Bruce willis, etc) I then found out who their managers or agents were and called and left messages with every one trying to get help getting a plane ticket to "go see my marine brother". I also called governors and senators. By the way, the only call back that I received was from Sen. Al Franken's office (MN senator). Eventually, I figured out $ for the plane and hotel..I flew to San Diego on October 1st! I stayed until Oct. 4th when I flew back. The majority of my manic episodes are like the last one but usually not so crazy. I tend to get a random idea and I will become obsessed. I will do whatever it takes to accomplish whatever idea it was that I set out to do. It's a shame that my ideas aren't like "find a cure for cancer" or "make a million dollars"
