I just went to my PDoc's office today for the first time for an appointment with his nurse practitioner. Until now I have been going to a regular medical doctor for what I thought was just depression and ADD. The NP today told me that she believes I have bipolar. She wrote me a script for Lamictal, which I start tomorrow. I just wanted to know if anyone has ever taken it or is currently taking it and if it helps you.

I took it for several years and it did absolutely nothing for me - I could have been taking a sugar pill with the same rate of success. No side effects whatsoever, to give it some credit.
Most people who take it though do report that it is helping them, and there have been recent threads about Lamictal/Lamotrigine so while you are waiting for responses you may want to run a search to see old threads. Good luck with it. |

I take 200 mg Lamictal daily, and I think it helps, although I've needed both an antidepressant and an antipsychotic to manage my moods the past few months. I do know that I was in sad shape before I started on it, and I've never been anywhere near that bad since.

I just got diagnosed several months ago. I was put on lamictal and prozac to start with. The prozac made my depression worse so they took me off it, but the lamictal did wonders for me. I'm currently stopping medication as I'm leaving the current clinic I'd been going too and I can already feel the depression coming back. When I go to a new place I'm going to ask to be put on lamictal again. Hope everything works out for you!

I think you just have to try it to see if it's a good match for you. I didn't like it, I prefer lithium. We all seem to react very differently to the different meds, so you have to try and see what your body says about it. I hope it does help, good luck.

I also don't believe it helped me at all. I was on it for about 2 years

I am on both Lithium and Lamictal (long story).
Lamictal has been great for me... it's cut out a lot of my rage/adrenaline racing/irritability, etc., as well as helping a little of my anxiety. It also seems to have helped with my carb cravings/keeping appetite in control. The sad part is my P-doc tried it with me at the beginning of my dx-es, and because of the med combo I was taking along with it, it just didn't, "take." Thankfully it has now. As Blueinanna said diff meds work different for everyone. Hope it helps you!

I've been on lamictal for about a month now, they step u up on it very slowly bc there is one dangerous but rare side effect- a rash that can be fatal! I am just about a week into stepping up from 25 mg to 50. Through the 25 mg wks I really didnt feel any different but since I moved up to 50 I am feeling so much better! I have been thru hell the past 4 days and I have handled it so much better than the "normal me" would have. But like Blue I said, its all in your personal chemical make up and what wks well for one person may not for you. Best of luck! Keep us informed.
