I hope everyone who celebrates has a nice and safe Halloween tonight.

Taking the boys to trick or treat, then that's probably all.

Today is also me and my husband's eight year anniversary. We usually celebrate on a different day for now, though, due to the kids being so excited.

For Halloween I am dressed as a.... uhm... girl in a leopard print shirt. So I guess I'm a leopard.

My middle son was a skeleton and the baby was a puppy. My oldest was a creeper from Minecraft, but we didn't get to see him again this year.

Trick or treat went okay. I ended up having to carry the baby all 12 blocks because he wouldn't ride in the stroller. I now know I can walk a very long way carrying the baby if necessary.

thanks!

I went that whole way and didn't whine once.

I should carry him long distance more often, just in case of that zombie apocolypse thing...

Happy Anniversary DH!! 8 years is a pretty long time! You know that is too funny, my ex and I also got married on halloween too! That is kinda funny we have that in common. I hope you two get to have some good time together for that!

I am glad trick or treating went good, 12 blocks ouch! Don't miss that part, no. Well now you can collect your candy tax for taking them and doing all the heavy lifting.

My oldest went with his friends, then my daughter decided she wanted to go with her friends and their dad and took her little brother with her. I felt sad about it but relieved at the same time. Did not feel like walking in the freezing rain after I got home from work.

Oh ya,you will need it for the zombies, we laugh but what I saw on the tv last night...

It was very nice here last night. A perfect night for trick or treat, no coats or anything. Very weird. When I was a kid it was always snowing on Halloween.

What did you see on t.v.? Another bath salts guy eating someone's face? I feel the zombie apocolypse is actually going to be a bath salts epidemic. People behave like zombies on that, it's terrifying...

I only caught part of it but they were talking about societies obsession with zombies, the government, big pharma companies, genetic modification, bio wars .. how this could be a real possibility. Probably a lot of hype, but you never know.

Right now scientists are working on creating genetically modified camels, for pharmaceutical companies. The gm'd camel milk will be used in cheaper drugs. Apparently human genes have "successfully been inserted intogenetically modified cows that now allow them to produce ‘human’ milk — milk that has the very same properties as human breast milk." And it was created with the intent to market it in supermarkets within three years.

"The milk is still undergoing safety tests, but with government permission it will be sold to consumers as a more nutritious dairy drink than cow's milk." k bovine milk isn't really all that good for us I don't believe, but ..."It's better for you because it's genetically modified". ..

Pretty sure the more you read and dig the more crazy you will find these examples are probably mild. But injecting foreign dna into other species, or even humans, seems like it could be very problematic. I believe I did read a tiny bit about tinkering with gm'd human dna, kinda scared to read it.

The bath salts is freaky, thank god I didn't see another case of face eating. But where does this stuff really come from, ok I am suspicious.

Bath salts cases really are like zombies. They become violent, and seem to lose sense of self (often running naked.) The creepiest part is that there have been stories that a tazer won't bring them down like the naked lady who was attacking a boy. They couldn't get her to stop, tazed her, and she just kept going. They had to kill her to get her to stop. It's pretty scary. Then of course the face eating... all zombie behaviors.

Zuh??? Puppy wasn't scary. He's so cute! Cute baby puppy.

At my dad's house there was a real puppy. I don't know what type of dog it is but it's skinny, tall, and chocolate colored like a chocolate lab. But she's only a few months old and her name is Cocoa. Anyway, she was very excited about the baby. She wanted to run up and play with him so bad. But she was way too hyper and freaking him out. It made him cry, and she didn't even get close to him, just her bounciness. So yes, puppies can be very scary... to a small baby.

awww fair enough.

i do like puppies too.. miss understood the concept a bit i think

thought during halloween you're meant to dress up as something scary- and i'm usually dracula (complete with teeth and mask and cloak) but couldn't be bothered with all the fuss this year.

Halloween has kind of morphed into whatever kind of costume goes over the years. Usually takes kids quite a few years before they want to be something scary. I don't think my kids wanted to wear scary costumes until they were about 7 or 8. Usually little kids want to be something from a movie or tv show it seems.

I dress up as something different every year, sometimes scary, and sometimes not, just depends what I want to be.

This is the first year my 6 year old wanted to be something scary. He started out wanting to be a ghost but then ultimately decided skeleton. The costume was a bit scary for him, though, because at first he was scared of the mask. He tried to cover it up saying "the other kids might be scared," but once he got it on and saw no one was actaully scared, then he really had fun.

I think babies just default to cute normally. I was debating if he should go as the Incredible Hulk, though, because he has some major temper tantrums already and he's only 10 months old.

I saw a group of zombie kids. They were around 10 years old, two boys and a girl, and the scariest and bloodiest costumes I saw all night.

The idea that we dress as the ghouls to chase them away has pretty much gone from the idea of Halloween. It's more the night to play pretend with everyone else. Many places ban scary costumes now. Some even ban t.v. and movie / princess / superhero costumes and say only "historical" or "cultural" costumes allowed.

historical and cultural costumes only......

My kids last school had that policy, they had a cultural day instead. And had an outdoor track day on halloween, it's usually snowing by then.. good idea. I think it is silly personally, and it is part of our culture.

While there is nothing wrong with cultural day, I do feel bad for the kids that have no traditional cultural clothing, a lot of us are very mixed breeds far removed from any tradition for generations. I don't know if I am supposed to send my kids in Canadian clothes on those days, jeans.. t-shirt and hoodie.

I thought traditional Canadian clothes was flannel shirts, work boots, jeans, and those hats with ear flaps. (J/k! J/k!!! *hides*)

I am pretty connected to my cultural origin. On my mom's side, my grandpa's parents were immigrants from Italy and my grandma's grandparents (who raised her as her parents) were also immigrants from Italy. On my dad's side my grandpa's parents were immigrants from Italy, but his mom's family was a mix of Irish, Scottish, and Native American (very small amount, Black Foot tribe from Montana.) And my dad didn't grow up with his mom and really didn't know her, but was close to his aunt... who married and Italian... so... you can probably guess which heritage I was raised with.

But, I don't feel I'm really passing that on to my kids the way my mom passed it on to me. But I think a big part of that is I feel totally disconnected from my family now. My mom's familiy used to be really close and now I am pushed out. It's hard... I did teach my husband to make pizza, though. He makes awesome pizza.

Hi, DarkHeart - it is my anniversary too! Only very interesting and cool people get married on Halloween. My wife and I didn't do it on purpose, but it surely suits me well. 14 years for us. Congrats to you!
