Two good things happened.

1) I commuted to and from work on my new bike. From work, in the dark. In heavy traffic. Biking for the first time since adolescence. I work in an adjacent city so it is quite a long ride.

2) When I came back home and was entering the apartment with the bike, my cat Tommy ran away. First I finished putting the bike in its place in the hallway and closed the door so that Adele would not run away (if you read my posts, Adele is the kitty who ran away in June and went missing for several days). Then, I ran downstairs and spotted Tommy and started running after him until I finally caught him and brought him home.

The common factor? Good speed of reaction. Both biking in heavy traffic and cat chasing require fast reaction speed. The meds I am taking do not make my sluggish, that is clear as day.

Good for you. I love biking and the feel of air on my face. Hope you pay attention to safety! So glad the meds are working. Speed is important to me too.

I will be faster with time - taking it rather slowly in the beginning.

Thank you! You are so supportive - that is really sweet of you my friend! I was amazed myself - I thought that I would not be riding at night until the spring when it is light, but here I was, riding all they way!

I do need to find a way to quickly maneuver the bike into the apartment and shut the door; I am not looking forward to chasing Tommy every night, that is for sure! And he IS such an escape artist.

Good Job ! I could not do all that.

Maybe you could go in your apartment entice Tommy with a treat into the bathroom then bring your bike in?

Good job Hamster! You will be a pro in no time at riding and it will be 2nd nature. I'm glad your cat didn't get away.

Good to hear you seem to be getting the bike commute down which can be very rewarding I have found. And sometimes a bit scary. Good job on the cat.

I managed to roll the bike out of the apartment without letting Tommy out, so I am getting it, little by little. On my way back home I will try MTW's idea of giving treats in the bathroom. I will probably even close the door of the bathroom for just one minute to allow myself to roll in the bike.

I have memorized the route well!

This kicks ***. Way to go! What a great attitude! I smiled and was glad for you when I read this. That kind of positive attitude will ABSOLUTELY get you going the right way, and going far.

Two thumbs up.

AND A HUG!

I continue to kick *** today! Not only did I bike to work but also I left the office to see a new T. That was an hour long ride and I had a map. On my way back, I did not have a map - I forgot to print out the reverse directions. But that was OK - I had the route memorized on the way back. Two full pages worth of directions were all in my short term memory. It was a good memory test.

Will be seeing the new T weekly. Google Maps shows 44 minutes to her place and I took an hour. I think that is because my saddle is still uncomfortable and I tend to cruise rather than pedal because I am more comfortable when cruising. When I pedal, it hurts more. That is why I do not reach the average speed assumed by Google Maps.

But it is OK, with time I will either get used to the saddle or buy a special padded ladies saddle, and will pedal more and cruise less. With time I will reach Google Maps speed.

Thank you for the encouragement!!

Tommy is more into mischief than into food. Yesterday night, I first got into the apartment, opened a can of salmon, made three portions and gave one to each kitty. Adele and Maddy started eating. I went outside to get my bike. Tommy... wanted to go with me. I did not let him.

So the food trick did not work with him. Next I will try treats, as Morethingswrong suggested. Maybe treats are a better draw than food.

We have shower stalls in the office so I shower after the morning commute and then change. It is very very nice.
