Went to the ER last night for a migraine that lasted 2 days. I could not take anything other than tylenol at home because of my medications. So, they treated me and I'm all better now. I was wondering...how many of you get migraines and do you get them when you are having bipolar symptoms.

I am really lucky: a small dose of Amitriptyline at night not only makes me sleepy but also reduces the frequency and severity of my migraines.

When I do get migraines, taking Imitrex as early as possible helps. I use the nasal spray.

My migraines are not related to bipolar symptoms at all.

Btw, reducing Geodon to 80 mg a day has enabled orgasms.

Yep. I got extremely bad migraines on Lamictal (Lamotrigine). I had to go the ER because it was so bad. I talked to my P-doc about it and she was willing to prescribe another anti-convulsant sometimes used for us bipolar patients - Topamax (100mg /day divided into two 50 mg doses am/pm); within a week the migraines were gone. I haven't had a single migraine since. Miracle cure for me.

I hope you are able to find relief from your pain.

Piper,

Elavil (Amitriptyline) that I recommended to you for sleep also prevents migraines. Without cognitive side effects.
Thanks for this!

Ah, but I'm liking my weight loss. I'm okay being dumb as a box of rocks. Hehe, thanks.

Yeah, Elavil does not lead to weight loss. If the dose is high, it leads to weight gain. At a low dose, it is weight neutral.

But still try it in addition to Topamax, as a virtuous non-habit-forming sleep aid.

I wish I could still take Topamax, my manic episode got worse when I started Topomax. I should ask my pdoc about amitriptyline because I also have trouble sleeping.

I'm not sure if my pdoc will reduce the Geodon for me again. I will have to wait and see. So far I've had no problem reducing it.

I got the dumb when I took topamax. My spelling was poor when I was on it.

Now I take verapamil.

I have had two migraines of recent, but these are related to birth control pills. My OBGYN thinks it is estrogen withdrawal when I change to the placebo pill. Nothing that I do can help them and they last a good 4 to 6 hours. If it continues, I will ask for something prescriptive because all I want to do is vomit the whole time.

You need a prescription for Imitrex nasal spray. When you have a migraine with nausea and want to vomit, it is not a good idea to take pills. A nasal spray would do the job for you just fine.
