Birthdays. Ugh... I don't like having them. I don't like attention. I feel obligated on days like these. What's the big deal... it's my 34th one. I should be wanting to celebrate the past six months of treatment. I have been stable long enough to see the life changes from it, so that is worth celebrating i guess... it's the first time in my 34 years that I have had any peace really. since I was nine. but that has nothing to do with my birthday really.

Ugh... I just realized yesterday that today is my birthday cuz I have been so busy.

I can feel you on that one, just feel obligated to put on a smile for a day and make everyone happy. It's not pleasant. But hope you have a birthday to your liking. I agree celebrating treatment is more important I know I'm gonna celebrate the day of my first Sui attempt more than my birthday. Cause I survived not cause I'm proud I survived and the long way I've come since then. So I agree with you completely.

I try and enjoy my birthday more than I used to. I don't know why though, I used to think they were not a big deal either still I started recovering. Then I enjoyed the birthdays. Maybe this one will be different for you.

I hope you enjoy your day

I feel the exact same way, I have hated them since I was really little. I hate all of attention, and I feel rude on them, not to mention obligated just as you feel. I feel guilty because I have trouble saying things like "Thank you", but I don't know why. It has always been hard for me to say stuff like that, and it makes me mad. Also, I don't let ANYONE sing to me on my birthday, I hate it. Pushing aside the negative thoughts, happy birthday! I really hope you are able to enjoy it, have fun!

It's a family date night for us, with dessert at the end. We have 3 a year, entertainment (arcade or movie), Dinner of birthday persons choice, and a cup cake. Our son also gets "can't get in trouble" and no chores. Is there something you enjoy but don't take the time to do it or do something low key? My dad's birthday he spends fishing, My mom kayaks all day. Something like that so you actually look forward to the day.

I hate them too landskaperdan. On so many levels. And "the song"! UGH! Lol, iluvdukie1... hear you! It is strictly not allowed. As my people circle is very small, I don't have much hoo-hah to deal with. I also do as some others have said --and recommend-- simply doing something you like on the day. Makes something about it enjoyable anyway.

(Hey though -- here is a cool thing. You share the EXACT same birthday as our lovely Anika!)

I don't mind birthdays, even though they're really starting to stack up now. But the day of my birth is secondary to the day I got sober (Jan. 1, 1992), so I celebrate that one with more enthusiasm; after all, that was the day my life really began.
