I have purposely been avoiding social situations for many months now, only attending the ones that involve family. This evening my husband and I are attending a party that includes 50 or so guests. This will be my first real test of my current stability. Some things I have been thinking about-will I be able to handle the crowd? Will I get nervous, and drink too much? Will the friends there who know my diagnosis be watching to see if I drink too much? I don't know why I am so nervous-I will know most of the people there. I just find it so uncomfortable to make small talk no matter what state I am in!
I'll let you know tomorrow if I survive, or make a complete fool of myself.

I think you'll do great. I worry about those things too, like will I have a crying spell in front of "everyone" or will I drink too much. Try to drink 2 glasses of water or juice in between drinks. I hope you can just have a healthy safe fun time!

Eat! Do not forget to eat. It is not good to drink alcohol on an empty stomach.

Best of luck. Try a few breathing exercises. U can do breathing techniques and no one will know. I think your doing a brave think by facing your fears.

Party hardy and rock and roll
Don't let others take a toll
just let the good times fill your soul
and don't dig yourself into a hole

I know you'll do good
cuz you care how it goes
some peeps don't care
and to some stability blows

but your on the right track
this is obvious to see
so keep up the good work
and have fun at the party

Just remember to stay positive don't drink to much and eat and enjoy yourself. I wouldn't worry to much about people finding you out.

Thanks, Everyone! I loved the poem, Lands! I drank a lot (beer, not water), but I ate more than I ever eat at a meal. The night was fun, lots of laughing. The crowd was there to party-kegs of beer, wine, a variety of liquors, and jello shots. There was a bonfire going with an outdoor big screen tv playing football games.
The bottom line is that I didn't overdo it. I didn't feel the need to drink everything in sight. I was able to carry on normal conversations.
No depression or regrets. I even made it to church.
