Hi everyone,
This is my first winter since being diagnosed BP 1. Last week I thought I would need to go to respite care. I called someone from my support group and it really helped. This is really new for me. Since being diagnosed this past summer. I've really only dealt with mania. I experience some rapid cycling at first when my pdoc tried to find the right med cocktail for me. I mostly noticed the change in my mood after daylight savings time change. I have days when I want to do nothing but sleep. I don't cook meals the way I use to. I've talked with my pdoc and she thinks it will go away soon. I have another appt with my pdoc next week and will let her know that my crying spells are back. I'm trying to keep my same routine but it's hard. I went to my ceramics class and started crying while I was there. I hate running to the restroom to pull myself together. I attend a weekly support group which helps. Does anyone else deal with winter blues? I'd love suggestions and feedback on surviving. Will this go away in February or March?

hmm.
try and keep your room/ area summary as possible. keep it warm... play summary tunes, do things you'd usually do at a certain time in the summer- for example for me, 1 of the things i like doing is to post on my local theme parks forum (the theme park only is open in the summertime). though i've never been their myself, posting to it when it's closed makes me feel i'm their.. sun beating down on me, etc hope this helps (probably not, but. ) |

-Lights help me to wake up and I schedule things in the morning so I get up and out of bed.
-If the weather is ok I try to get out and go for a walk - just out the door and for as long as I can, if I'm depressed then I can stop after 5 min but usually I walk for longer. -I try to get out of the house every day even if its just to the coffee shop for a coffee. -Journalling helps me when I'm depressed - whatever the reason Hope you start feeling better soon

Coco, I struggle with this too. Making sure I raise the shades and open the drapes 1st thing and like Black Pup said getting out of the house everyday really helps me.

We use full spectrum bulbs in our house so the whole house is a giant light box.

Today I did pretty good. I stayed busy, got some sun, socialized and only got teary-eyed a few times.
