No.. I'm ok with it. Not up to me when world ends. It just is what it is. Try not to let your mind get all over the place like that and get depressed. Feel your feelings, but don't go crazy over something that's so out of your hands... grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can... hope you feel better soon Shattered.

No, but I don't want the world to end, not yet.

Honestly whether it is right or wrong, I want the world to end when collectively we are in better shape. I am excited for the future of man kind. I am hopeful, I do think we are getting better, and selfish or not I would like to get to witness more of it. Most people say they want peace, the world to be in that state, I really cannot help feel that we are moving in that direction when I look at the past history of humans.

I never gave much thought to any of the end of the world theories. We don't know, how could we? Honestly we don't really know all that much about our world. What did the Mayans think was going to cause the end.. Like what events? Sorry for my ignorance on that, but I am curious about what they thought was going to happen?

Ok to be really honest, even though I might not hold the majority opinion. Wishing the whole world would suddenly end to me seems extremely sad. What about all the people who are not ready to go? I am not ready to go.. People hoping that my childrens lives end tomorrow, or my life or billions of others... Honestly I find that really hurtful and very sad. I want to see my children grow and learn, expeience the life they were gifted with, other people wishing to take that away is painful.

I understand that some people are not happy with their lives, but to wish everyone perish because of their own pain? I have pain too, but it is mine, and I would not trade it, some people believe that is a valuable part of life.

It's one thing to wish yourself dead, to me it's a whole other thing to wish it for billions. People want compasssion, wishing the whole world came to end is not very compassionate. It's not as if the earth would just dissapear into thin air. It would be painful, full of catasrophe, suffering and misery.. For everyone.

That's truly odd. Why on earth would you want the world to end?

I was never concerned about it. I don't get people who worry about this kind of thing and actually believe all the odd-ball end of the world theories. Just isn't terribly rational.

No, I wouldn't want the world to end. I have family and students and friends and a future that I plan to enjoy as long as God sees fit for me to hang around.

I meant no offense.

And as I am not building nukes in my basement, and none of us probably are, I don't see how are wanting to "take away" somebody's future. We just differ in our perception of the said future's sustainability.

I do maintain, that unless something radically changes, we are in for lot of trouble. Sadly, it takes usually unprecendent tragedies for humans to change. It's almost like hinduist belief in destruction that breeds creation.

It's the oddly attractive "Forever Young" thinking.

It was song by Alphaville. One that I play WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much.

For some the thought we are in fact going to die one day... and that it might be quite soon (although I rather fear withering slowly) is liberating, not scary.

Not giving up here, there is beauty in small things, find it or make it. As humans we have major trauma in our history, our dna, many people are hurting so bad. But I don't want to give up looking for solutions and healing. My children's smiles, my cats, my dog, my friends here whose smiles and tears I feel, I won't be giving up on any of us. We may have been beat down into learned helplessness, we can relearn hopefulness.

I don't find the idea of dying frightening, but it isn't something I'm wanting to happen any time soon either. I have much to live for.

I don't want the world to end but I would be up for seeing a bit of a tearing down of the crediting agencies. Bring everyone back to 0. Money is just an imaginary thing anyway, in the grand scheme of things.

Alphaville was my FAVE band when I was 11/12 lol, you maybe were a baby. Still love that music. You have the Jerusalem song?

Yea, DH, credit agencies need to crumble, that would fix much of my problems.

Venus, I don't mean you in particular, or any one here in particular, just the general sentiment of wishing that upon others. Sorry I shuld have stated that. There are other threads on pc about this topic, and I do see the majority of of people who do respond wish it to end. I just really don't think it would be a peaceful ending.

I too think that good comes out of bad. The sometimes pain needs to happen to bring changes. And i accept that but wishing it on tons of others doesn't seem like a peaceful mind.

I know we see the world differently, I don't think the world is on fire, more like smoldering, and still putting fires out. I really do think there have been worse times than now. The financial crisis, while I don't wish suffering for anyone, hopefully we will be able to use it as a stepping stone to learn better ways to be here. And not merely see it as something to be re-established the way it was.

I really hope we can bring a bigger focus on learning from other species how to be here in balance. We have lots of good examples right in front of us. I still maintain hope that we will get there.

I am not afraid of dying, and I can accept that there is both good and bad, there is pain, but wishing pain for others is the part I have problems with. Hindus and others even myself believe destruction brings about change. I think tho it is something more to accept and work with rather than hope for destruction of others. Does that make sense? Hindus I doubt would wish destruction for others.

But like I said I was not responding to anyone in particular, this is my response in general about this topic because many people do wish destruction for others, without thinking about what kind of thoughts those are. Usually I think it is people who are in pain wishing for this, and to me it seems counter productive to wish that.. it is not peaceful, it will not make them feel peace either in my opinion or bring them less suffering.

I know and like the Jerusalem song.

Anika... for me the problem with economic crisis is... it doesn't seem to spark the right kind of response. Cold war brought up the hippies for bad or good, lots of kickass music, the dissidents of eastern bloc... and what we get now? Occupy Whatever and Nicki Minaj? I feel we need something else, something more.

(and yes, I am bit triggered by anniversary of Havel's death. WHile I am glad some people honored him honestly and in Havel-like spirit, I think he'd cringe over having airport named after him and getting a statue (in early days as prez, he once randomly jumped on some stone and told people standing by not get him statue ever, because it would look this stupid.... But yeah, I feel like we are nation of orphans now and the political step-parents are mean and vicious. Whine whine whine, almost first world problems).

The thing is, occupy whatever is not all there is. Celebs.. um would that include Nicki Minaj.. I will guess is one.. is not all there is or all people think about. I certainly don't.. I don't even know who most celebs are nowadays. There are tons of people who have other priorities going on, just what you see on tv ..

Tv presents an perception, and paints it as majority. I think that is changing whether TV wants to realize it or not. And changes happen slowly.. but slow doesn't equal no motion.

In my real life I do know people who are not all caught up in this stuff.. I know lots of them, but they are not on tv, they are not represented in media, they could probably care less about the next top model or next pop song, but they still exist. And they are making change happen.

Maybe what we need is a longer lasting change than hippies or the like. How many hippies stayed hippies, and didn't rejoin what they left in the first place. I think we need something that doesn't also become in part just trendy. Something that will be sustained, and I don't think that will be something brought on quickly.

Speaking of destruction..... I actually once came up with story idea about terrorist group who in sinceire belief they are doing it for people's greater good try to stirr WWIII to give people something to struggle for and wake them up from their apathy and indulgent self-pity.

Maybe I will gonna write it one day. Is gonna be so dystopic and hard hitting and truthful social reflection.

I hope you do write it, I would love to read it Venus. Even though we don't share the same view on somethings, I enjoy hearing what you have to say on these topics.

Sounds pretty interesting..

That does sound like a interesting book. I would like to read it as well. I love dystopian novels as well. Like 1984, one of my all time favorites
