I hate it when BP diagnosis comes up in the crime shows as a reason for criminal behavior. It seems to be the most popular TV psycho condition...at least this year. It will be something else in future episodes. I wonder, sometimes, if they have anyone familiar with BP consulting on scripts. I just turn the shows off and ignore it when my kids assume my BP isn't that bad because I haven't got psychotic and killed someonel.
Thanks for this!

Agreed.

I remember an episode of one of those "Law & Order" shows a few years ago. Stabler's daughter was diagnosed as bipolar and it turns out his mother was, too. He hadn't had anything to do with his mother for years because of it.

Currently, a major character on "The Young and the Restless" has been diagnosed with bipolar, but the writers obviously haven't investigated the condition because they are having the character act in a way that is NOT consistent with bp.

I just wish writers would take more responsibility and portray it in a realistic manner.

Yeah, exactly. I am most sensitive to the fact that most people don't know there are different types of bipolar and that bipolar 2 isn't a less severe form. It's different but that doesn't mean it isn't as terrible to experience.

Has anyone seen "Homeland" on Showtime? I don't get that channel and I'm curious as all get-out about this show, as the main character (played by Claire Danes) is bipolar. Her illness is discussed frequently and is woven into the story line like anyone else's 'non-conformity'. I've heard it's a pretty realistic portrayal of BP, although I don't know how any TV show can illustrate it well because we all experience it so differently. But I'm still curious.
