i've been manic, mixed and rapid cycling since april. this is getting real old especially the mixed. i don't sleep much but still have periods of no energy or lathargic but then some times i want to do everything at night. i think (i know this is driving my husband nuts...he does sleep in another room but is still a light sleeper) its not my fault i try to be quiet.
my dr. has me on 1200mg. lithium and 1500mg. depekote and just added zyprexa which i can't tolerate. in fact sometimes i can't tolerate any of the meds and vomit them. so i split up the doses then it becomes about meds all day long. i have other issuses (constant diarrheaa due to no gallbladder and having access bile) i take a bile binder but i can't take my meds 2 hrs before or after the binder or else.....guess my meds will bind. i'm also in a wheelchair and have chronic pain for which i take nothing because i get addicted so easily. its a mess...kinda funny but ridiculous.
thankyou, it felt good to vent!

I know what you are gong through, and I am so sorry.

I am 56, as I went through menopause I started to cycle more quickly and began having horrible Mixed states. They are so bad, being depressed with the energy of mania is something hard to put in words.

It drives everyone away from me , I end up in the hospital more often because my suicidal thoughts have the energy of mania behind them.

My PDOC always wants to medicate me more. I have a horrid time with Psyc meds, bad reactions and intolerable side effects.

So, nothing is really under control.

Again my thoughts are with you

Hi, I'm a rapid cycler also and have a ton of mixed states. I often can't tell if I'm rapid cycling or mixed or both. I know it's exhausting to always be having a mood. I'm only on 300 mg lithium, though. I just kind of ride things out the best I can.

I wish I had advice for you, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

thanks for the thoughts and support. i do know first hand that this shall pass when is the big if.
perfect example is: i had a depression so bad 6-7yrs. ago i was basically catatonic. we had to resort to ect. long story short i just one day snapped out of it. real weird. anyway, i had an accident and lost my leg ( i had 7 surgeries in a year to try to save it) after it all i decided in my head that i was either going to continue my life as best as i could or crawl up in a ball and give up on my life. i chose life. i had no depression or mania for 5yrs. so, us humans sometimes have little choice in what were handed and then again our attitude plays a big role too. whew...its to early for this.
have a good day my friends!
