So after a year I read my fish oil bottle it only has 300 mg of omega 3. I am pretty sure I was told 4000 mg is that 4000 fish oil or 4000 omega3. I am such an idiot maybe that is why I have not gotten all the benefits I am supposed to be getting. I looked at a more expensive brand and it has 690 mg omega3 per pill. I would have to take six to get close to 4000 a day.

That's a good question Doxie. I recently started taking it, my pill provides 600 of the Omega 3, from a 1200 pill. It is supposed to be important to get the distilled kind so you aren't consuming mercury.

But googling the question, I found a web page that indicates you'd be better off staying on your current dose: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/julie-...b_1886796.html .

It is strange how we find out stuff we think is good for us isn't, and stuff we thought was bad for us isn't, all the time it seems.

There was a stuy done around here at McLean hospital, that said 4000 mg fish oil or omega 3. My therapist told me about is a year ago. I have not noticed a difference in my behavior. So I was buying my fish oil and I read the label and realized I had been taking a 1000 of fish oil. I have an appointment with my therapist Thursday so she can let me know. The study is long and I am feeling very lazy . I am going to read the link you sent me.

Both my internist and psychiatrist recommended Omega 3 fatty acids. It does help me very much, both with calm moods and good digestion. (I think that it
relieves the acidic residue of meds--but that's a guess. Anyway, it works.)

Seems that article says further studies are needed and the research seemed to be based more on older women. I know McLean is supposed to be top notch. I know when I started taking accutane I had by levels done by triglycerides were under 200 one month later they were 421. I have read that accutane can raise your triglyceride I blame it on that med because I had no other med changes during that month. I went to my doctor to go on a triglyceride reducer. She said if I had not been on as much fish oil as I was I probably would have ended up In The hospital with triglycerides over 800. Of course now I have one more expensive med to add to my list it will cost me close to $50 a month to take 4000 omega 3. It never ends.

I am confused about it also. I read that the DHA in fish oil was supposed to help my memory problems caused by years of taking Topamax, but the capsules I was taking only had so much in them, so I asked my pdoc about straight DHA, and his reply was, "What is that?" Not very helpful. I told him it was a vitamin supplement and what I wanted to take it for (we have discussed my memory problems before with no satisfactory answer), all he said was it shouldn't interfere with my other meds. So I take the recommended dose of 900 mg a day. Seems to be helping a little.

I could've help to pick up what u are saying are topamax. Anything to help with memory loss would be great. I've taken it for 10 years and notice a big difference. I haven't looked at it but Stewarts... U can find them on line are incredibly affordable for supplements. Check them out.
