A migraine or a stomach flu.
Thanks for this!

Something where you wouldn't need to go to the dr and get a note for. Like stomach bug or food poisoning.

Ugh, I hear you. I just started Geodon and now I sleep like the dead.....hoping I don't sleep through my alarm, like I did through my husband's three attempts to wake me up this morning.

In your situation, I'd simply say you woke up nauseated and feverish. It's really none of the employer's business what your health issue is, but they don't like it when people come in with something communicable. Call it a 24 (or 48)-hour stomach bug.....there's lots of that going around this winter.

You could honestly say you are having a bad reaction to a new medication.

I just had to call in sick because I feel really nauseous, weak and get hot flashes and I had such bad anxiety before I made the call, my boss is kind of a ***** and she made me feel bad about calling in sick, tried to get me to work even part of my shift (after I told her I felt nauseous...I work in fast food) and said I should have called her yesterday. We closed at 5 yesterday and I was planning on still going to work, I'm sorry I can't see into the future to know that I was gonna be nauseous all night and only get 4 hours of broken sleep.
I've been nauseous for the last 2 weeks or so on and off and I don't know if it could be from meds I am on (I'm uping the dose) or maybe I am pregnant...or maybe just anxiety/stress. I'm planning on going to the afterhours clinic tonight.
I hope you start to feel better soon and your boss doesn't give you a hard time.

To Justwanttobnormal: I was gonna say... from your other stomach probs post.... but didn't want to say it... any chance you're pregnant.... ?

To Bos: I think it's best just to say, I'm so sorry I'm ill and won't be able to make it in today. Respond to the guilt trips with, I'm sorry. Short and sweet. Good luck with the med change, hope you feel better soon.

I am personally a fan of the stomach bug. My boss thought I had something wrong with me for like a week so I had my pdoc write them a letter saying I needed time off to recover lol my pdoc is the best.

Thanks guys. I work from home, so the contagious thing won't work. I don't know why I am so nervous about telling her I cannot work. I am such a good employee and have not had a sick day in 3 years. My boss is a real b&*&*& and I think I am actually fearful my voice will quiver on the phone and she can tell I will be lying. WHy am I so afraid of this. I am never going to get well if I can't take a day off to take care of my health.

Migraine has always worked for me in a pinch. It is hard to function at all with a bad one.

I am like you, it's very hard for me to do it. I was in the hospital, they thought they needed to remove my gallblader and I had to call my boss from the hospital. When I called I was so nervous that she would think I was lying even tho I was not, and I really could not just leave the hospital and go to work in that shape. I have a labour job and could barely walk but still felt like that. My voice was all quivering and nervous.. ugh. I hate people to think I am not reliable or worse lying. My boss was very understanding tho.

But you have not taken one in so long, and people get sick, other things happen and life goes on. It's expected that once in a while things will happen. So try not to worry about it. You deserve a day off for this. Odds are your boss has taken a sick day herself sometime.

well I never did call in sick and now it has been 3 days and I am really sick. I have been adjusting to abilify and today I started having heart palpations that really scared me. I felt really weak and had to lay down and my heart was just racing. I took an ativan and it eventually went away but I have been in bed all afternoon. I am supposed to go to work at 6 and going to have to call in sick because this is so ridiculous I am this scared to call my boss and I don't understand why I am such a martyr.

Yes, you are ill and do not owe boss any further explanation. Please take this time to figure out the meds and nurture your body and mind. I'm worried Bout you.
