Well like many of you I've become a professional pill head. What do you think of this? Are you shocked at the meds you take to stay stable? I know I am, mood stabilizers or my favorite word anti psychotic makes people think I'm a real looney toon.

Would you rather take the madness? Do you feel your oersonality had changed?

I feel I have changed as a person, and it bothers me I miss my madness.

Personally for me when this whole actual diagnosis of Bipolar hit, I was a walking or stumbling fool, loads of meds , just loads.. This went on for 4 or 5 months I think. I woke up one day pissed off and saw my Pdoc and told him its time to start dropping these meds.. I dropped off all of them with in a day or 2 ( I was lucky I had no problems going cold turkey) I only take Lamictal and Lithium now, But ... I have learn so many non medication ways of helping myself feel better more stable etc.

Anyway that's my journey.. everyone has there own. I am not saying anyone should stop there medications on there own . Consult your Pdoc about any changes .

I have been considering getting to of my ap at least but I find if I miss a dose I have trouble. So for me I will stay on meds for now until I learn better ways to deal with the bipolar. But for now ill be a professional pill head. Lol

I take so many pills that I sometimes wonder if I should just dump them in a cereal bowl, pour milk on them, and eat them with a spoon.

Only two, Cymbalta and Lamictal, are for my bipolar disorder though. Most are for other medical problems.
Thanks for this!

I hate my meds. I just got off Seruquel after a year, and now my pdoc has me on lithium. I'm also on lamictal and Effexor. The Effexor is from before I was diagnosed with bipolar and prescribed by my family doc. I'm too afraid to go off it because of the horrible withdrawals.

Sometimes I think I'd rather go insane and lose all sense of reality rather than taking these drugs. I need a vacation from my life.

I just filled filled my pill box at lunch with friends yesterday. (Friend is holding my meds per pdoc and we had lunch with 6 or so others). To see all this people state at my 16 pill bottles while I filled them... Knowing 3 or 4 are psych meds.

Yes, it was. I thought they would be supportive. Well one person was- always saying she hopes I feel better. But others seemed offended by my meds!

That's unfortunate. I wonder why people are so judgemental about that. Oh well if there not supportive they aren't worth being around anyway.

Its a weekly lunch group so we all know each other pretty well. I just think some of them get judgemental when it comes to meds and/or bipolar. I guess they just have nothing to say so they just give me weird looks instead!

Ah I'm sorry to hear that. It's even more difficult when it's your friends.

Yes, it is. You wait for a positive response and get a negative one, instead!

*shrugs* it may not even be ZOMG-unsupportive, rather uncomfortable in the situation. I mean most people make connection meds=sick. Lots of meds=very sick. And 16 bottles? It'd be bit "is she terminal?".

Aeon DM ...

Meditation is a big one.
Yoga.
Breathing exercises
Exercise
Getting outside in the sun daily if possible (damn gloomy grey winter)
Grounding
Mindfulness
I don't over analyze every mood or moment ever!
I don't over think Bipolar.
I see no need to tell people about my Bipolar. I have friends here on PC to talk to who will really understand. ( so that is less stress for me)
Hypnotherapy for my chronic pain.
Drink plenty of water, lots.
Try to eat healthy, I do avoid carbs and anything that is processed or has any type of artificial Sweetners or coloring.( yeah its tough but it makes a huge difference for me.. Bipolar and pain wise)
Do something kind or helpful every single day... Even if I'm in a mess mentally myself I force myself on here and try to help someone out.. If I am trying to help them.. then I am not focused on me, win/win.

All these things I have learned HERE and with my T.

It takes ALOT of work to actively use them in day to day life, They are not foolproof, But I have not been inpatient in almost 2 years, and that is worth all the work I have put into this, It is paving my way to becoming med free.

You are a survival. I like survivals. I don't really know why, but I feel good.
Thanks for this!

Oh, now I recall, I'll think through. I hate breathing excise, though. Boring...

Kindness, yes, I can't be loving without being kind outwardly, I discovered today. Nearly beat myself up.
