My cats have managed to remove four keys from my MacBookPro's keyboard. I have found three keys so far. The missing key is the DOT-COMMA key. Pretty important, right? I can still press on it though.

I have reattached the missing keys but did not do a good job. They still come off.

I know - I should have not been leaving the laptop open overnight. My fault; live and learn.

I am now sitting in Starbucks and eyeing people with I-Pads. I-Pads do not have a keyboard and are therefore pretty cat-proof.

I got my MBP in 2008, refurbished, so I do not even know what old it is, but definitely not new.

I am not manic, so not heading to an Apple Store now, but I am thinking of buying an I-Pad eventually if the keyboard whose keys are either missing or come off easily starts to annoy me.

What do you think?

I have a kindle fire that I like a lot. Everyone except me in my family has an iPad; they seem nice, but they are so expensive...I'm not sure if it's worth it when you can get a kindle for less than half the price.

close your laptop. Don't keep liquids around. I think you can get keyboard replaced....well at least on PCs. I had it done for about 20 euro (note for self: don't redbull vodka is bad for keyboards).

I do think iPads are bit too expensive for providing very uncomfortable computer.

no, the one below it.

I will start with trying to replace the keyboard on the existing computer. A Kindle is an interesting idea.

My husband has an iPad and he absolutely loves it. I'm currently typing on an old Mac laptop (powerbook G4 purchased used in 2004) that has been pretty beat up by my own cats. I used to have a nasty habit of leaving water cups laying around so on this machine I've had to have the keyboard replaced twice so far.

But I also have a Kindle Fire that I really like. I'd personally recommend that. I don't see much of a difference in terms of performance between my Fire and my husband's iPad.

Something about having the full keyboard on a laptop that I just really like though. Call me neurotic. lol
Thanks for this!

I have a windows tablet, it's nice but it's no laptop or pc. No disk drive sucks sometimes and tablets are just not as powerful, and I really notice the lag even on my bf's ipad. I have a docking/charger stand for my tablet and a wireless keyboard because I really don't find touch keyboards very great. Even though I mostly post here from my phone.

My tablet has basically become my recipe book in the kitchen. I use my laptop way more. My bf says he would rather have my tablet than his ipad. It is just as good and cost a whole lot less, but basically there is no difference except that you get to escape apples lock down on their products, plus I will never buy an apple product again after seeing the suicide nets they put in place for the workers who build this stuff. Now where can you find a company that produces electronics that adhears to proper labour and environmental practices. :/

I LOVE my ipad. Honestly, it replaces a laptop easily if you get a keyboard and the software if you want documents and what not.

It's money well spent IMHO.

went to the apple store. Since the mbp is so old, they are unsure whether they would be able to replace the kb. They will tell me in a week. If they can replace the kb, it would cost me almost 100 bucks. I need to look at the prices of windows tablets and kindles.

We are a family full of electronics; a kindle fire, a nook, two ipods, 2 ipads, several laptops, a regular computer, and a macbook pro. Here are my thoughts. If you plan to do any typing you need a regular keyboard for comfort. The laptops are great for this. For movies or shows, though, I prefer the apple products-the macbook, or the ipads. My son says his kindle is just as good, though I've not tried it. Also, I like the convenience of apps for the news, movies, and games.
A ipad is much more convenient than carrying around a laptop if you're heading to Starbucks or somewhere similar for some relaxing time.
As for replacing the keyboard, unless you are an apple-products only person, there are some pretty good deals on other laptops. The one I currently use, a Toshiba, only cost $299.00 on sale at Best Buy last year. It's funny, my husband has to use all Apple products at work because he works on an Apple account, but he prefers his beat up Toshiba at home.

So many on campus have one. An ipad I mean, and so many of its variations.

WOW! So it is basically not just completely cat-proof, but even cat-friendly!

I imagine that you wouldn't want a claws cat to go at it, especially if they get too excited. lol

Apparently my MBP is "vintage". It is so old that Apple Store calls it "vintage". I wish I could get some vintage clothes from Apple Store... So it has taken them THAT long to determine that yes, a new keyboard can be installed even into the vintage MBP. They also told me that had I waited for another month, they would have been unable to help because, I guess, the serial number of my machine would just be buried pretty soon. What is next after the vintage stage - burial, right?

$86 for a new keyboard into the old MBP. Cheaper than an iPad and will have a physical kb.

Will not leave the laptop open when I am not working on it!!!

I decided to buy a new kb for the mbp.

It took the Apple Store a long time to order and install it.

I paid around $90 for it.

I brought it home.

Well...

The letter H needs to be pressed several times and pressed hard.

Back to the Apple Store...
