I got my Lamictal today. The starter kit says: dispense WITH accompanying medication guide. I don't see any guide though.
I'm excited to start it but do you take it with food or without, or does it matter? Morning or night?

Either way. It does not matter. Do not need food but may take with food as you wish. It is not sedating. Morning or night. Do as convenient for you.
Do not use any new soaps, shower gels, detergents, etc etc. |

I use to take it and did so in the day. Hamster is correct it doesn't make you sleepy.

Sorry, I forgot to explain why: the biggest trouble with Lamictal is the potentially lethal rash. It is rare but it can happen. So that you do not by accident develop a rash from a new product, do not use any new soap, etc. This way if you do develop a rash, you will know that you got it from Lamictal.

My doctor suggested I take it it in the AM, and it does make me drowsy.

Yeah, definitely should be having an information sheet with every med you get, especially when (rare, unlikely) lethal rashes are involved.
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/D.../UCM152835.pdf I go back and forth whether or not I am taking it in the morning or at night. It is neither sedating nor activating for me.

I used to take it twice a day so both! When you start though I was told it can make some people drowsy at first so taking it at night is better but it didn't matter since I'd end up taking it twice a day.

I have to take it twice daily, 100 mg/AM and 150 mg/PM. It used to make me drowsy in the mornings, which made the 25-mile drive to work interesting at times, but that effect went away once I'd ramped up to therapeutic dosage.

My pdoc said am or pm wasn't a big deal, but suggested that I start in the am because some people find it stimulating. No need to take with food. I do not find that it makes me tired (and many meds tend to make me tired) but I only take 100mg.

A very good medication, in my view. Hope you feel much better taking it. The syndrome is very rare (about 99% safe according to my psychiatrist) so look forward
to some pleasant times ahead. |

I take 200 mg in AM and 200 mg in PM. When I was taking the 400 mg in one dose it made my chest hurt.

I take 150 mg in the AM and the same in the PM. It's been a life saving drug for me. I hope it helps you. The titration schedule is designed to lower the risk of the worrisome rash. Keep your pdoc appraised about how it affects you positively and negatively as there are alterations to dose that can be made, as well as additional medications that can be used with the Lamictal or replace it.

Thanks everyone! I was a little turned off when I saw it was orally disintegrating but it pleasantly tastes like candy to me

My thoughts are whenever you remember to take it. Some people are better doing it in morning. I'm better remembering at night. It can (and does for me) give you really vivid weird dreams.

Resurrecting an older thread here.
![]() I just wanted to throw in my experience. I tried Lamictal back in 2012, and I started taking it at night. I had very weird dreams, and would sweat alot all night long, I would get chills, then get hot and sweat, etc. I switched to the morning and everything was fine. Well, long story short, I quit the Lamictal back then, and now I am back on it. I have been taking it in the morning with no problems. I almost forgot about my experience in 2012, so I took it at night last night....and I got weird dreams, trouble sleeping, tossing around night sweats again...I woke up very sweaty. No more nightime Lamictal for me, it is very activating for me. When I take it in the morning, I don't notice any issues. Just thought I would share.
