Sorry, Tmontana94, alcohol is a drug, so you're not free. Having said that, what you are experiencing could be anything, frankly: budding alcoholism, ADHD, ultradian cycling in bipolar illness, or a depressive state in bipolar illness.

I've never been manic, so I couldn't tell you except to say
that one can lose one's reasoning capacity, have delusions, hallucinations, and go on huge spending sprees, etc.I have been told by one psychiatrist that mania is a reaction to depression.

By the way, if you're ADHD, your diet needs some correcting. Read what you can about exorphins in wheat and how they affect the brain. (See Dr. David Williams' best seller Wheat Belly for current information on the damaging effects of wheat on the brain.)

If I were in your shoes, I'd see a psychiatrist to find out what you need to do to get things straightened out in your life. You need to address your alcohol use first of all, in my opinion. Then the other things will be more reliably treated by a specialist.

I hope you do settle in for some serious academic work and that you can spare yourself the long-term consequences of drug abuse.

Good luck.
Thanks for this!

I do not understand your post. Provigil is a drug taken to increase wakefulness. If you are manic or think that you might be, you sure do not need to increase wakefulness. So?

Whatever it is, if it is night time, you need to go to sleep now. If you cannot fall asleep and do not feel a need for sleep, that would point towards the possibility of mania, if lasting for awhile. Sleep is a core issue in bipolar.

Since you took a stimulant I would guess that that's playing a role. I read that "increased activity" can be a side effect of the medication you're taking.

There's a lot more to mania than just feeling really good and energetic.

I'd talk to your psychiatrist and see what he/she thinks.
Thanks for this!

It's usually difficult for me to tell when I'm manic, to me it just feels like a fabulous mood. Maybe a little amped and fidgety. But sleep is a big thing, that's how I can tell for sure. When I get 2 or 3 hours of sleep a night for several days and don't feel tired at all, I know something's up.

I mean, sure, there's other things to it. I'm more likely to start writing or painting... a lot. Or sometimes I do get strange ideas in my head, although they don't seem strange at the time. In the moment, were it not for the sleep issue, I would just think I was exceptionally motivated that day.

From what I understand, not needing much sleep is the common denominator. Some people may write, others shop, yet others engage in risky activities, or have racing thoughts - all of that varies, but most people have the sleep issue.

thanks to everybody who replies, I coulndt sleep I took some melatonin pills to sleep, I think something is going on specially last night I was soo active, bouncing around the house with music outloud and craving cocaine, I haven't been a coke addict but at the time I was in the "go for it" mood like wishing I had some bunch of coke in the table to sniff, which I found it very strange because normally I dont crave coke, right now Im not sleepy, feeling in a pretty good mood, it's been a while since I have been taking melatoin because I cant sleep at normal hours, I feel awesome and active right now but not that crazy as last night, so wtf happend last night? a reaction to a stimulant med feeling already active or is it normal?

Melatonin is a weak sleep aid. You need to see a doctor for something stronger. If you have bipolar, you will need a stronger sleep medicine. If you do not have bipolar and are reacting to stimulant, you will still need a stronger sleep medicine!

If Melatonin is not helping, there is no point in taking it.

Stimulants can make you feel active. The thing is that if you're taking meds that cause wakefulness or sleep, it will be hard to diagnosis you on anything, and only a psychiatrist can do that. What you need to do is maybe keep a mood tracker that tracks depression and mania symptoms. As someone already said, there's a lot more to mania than just bieng active, not sleeping, and feeling good.

Tracking your moods and symptoms is a good way to start figuring out what your baseline is and when things go up or down.
