Anybody having struggles with the change in time? I've read that these changes can be tough on bipolars, and I have been feeling depressed and tired the last few days. I never remember to follow guidelines I read somewhere about how to prepare for the transition.....Thanks for any feedback!

All I can say is I wish we would leave the clocks ALONE!!! It doesn't save energy since I turn on the lights longer now. I have an easier time adjusting to standard then daylight though.

I have to change my eating habits, sleep time, etc. for a few days!

I thought of other stuff I didn't have time to say, LOL.

Arizona & Hawaii don't observe it at all! And I think parts of Indiana.

Anyway, I find winter depressing enough with the shorter days or the sun setting earlier. It doesn't help to set the clocks back, since the sun will set even "earlier".

I liked it when for decades we didn't have to set the clocks ahead till April. Now we have to do it 3 weeks earlier! It doesn't save energy necessarily. It depends on what time one gets up or leaves (it's darker in the morning when we set the clocks ahead, lighter in the evening), how much daylight one gets in their house/apt in the first place, and what time one gets home. It even depends on if someone works at home.

I think this is an outdated practice and I wish we would stop!

I've noticed we spend more time on DST than ST.

I can't be much help since I have trouble too, but one example I can give you is dinnertime. When we had to set the clocks back, I was STARVING even though the stupid clock said I had one more hour to go before dinnertime. Blasted! I had to eat. Then, each day after that, I waited 15 minutes later to eat, until after a few days I was eating at the "right" time. My stomach was still on DST, so it took some time to get used to the "later" dinnertime.

I do the same thing with sleep, but it doesn't work as well. This is where I have the most trouble. For DST, I'm going to bed too early and can't sleep. For ST, I get tired way too early since I'm ready for bed, but the clock says I have another hour before bedtime.

I'm not good with change in general, and changing the clocks is another change I have to adapt to twice a year! The days naturally get longer when spring approaches, and get shorter when winter approaches. There's no need to mess with the clocks!!

Thanks for this thread, Payne! Glad I could blow off some steam!

I didn't have much trouble with the time change. But sinceI don't work, I'm very flexible about when I have to go to bed/get up.

I can't believe that it's almost time for that AGAIN, in about another 2 months! I'm already having trouble waking up too early because of my upstairs $%&*#@! neighbor. Evil old witch, waking me 2 hours before I have to get up. Then, I can't go back to sleep, even when she finally leaves which takes an HOUR.

Now, we'll have to mess with the clocks again.

I wish we spent more time on standard time instead of daylight savings.

Here in Puerto Rico we don't observe daylight savings or anything. I think it's a silly system to adhere to.

This seems harder for me now that I'm older.

I don't think it's even necessary to change the clocks for more daylight. The days are getting longer NATURALLY. It's an outdated thing to do, and they extended it too. Since a lot of farming is automated, it doesn't serve the purpose it used to!

I did find that eating a little earlier for a week before helped with the meal thing. (I wouldn't be hungry yet since it's too early, according to my stomach's clock) Also, I tried getting up about 30 min earlier for a week before the change. This helped a little, but the wake up time is STILL brutal.

You'd think cause you are also going to bed an hour earlier, that it would all balance out. But I couldn't fall asleep since it was TOO EARLY for bed! So it'd take me 2 HOURS to get to sleep, then I'd have to get up an hour earlier!

No energy savings, since it's dark when I get up (hour early!), so I end up turning on more lights than I would have if we just left the clocks alone.

I'm sort of used to it now, but a couple of more days will do it.

The time change has been hard on me. This past week has been hard. Just getting out of bed in the morning can be a monumental task. I'm also on meds that make me tired too. It's a double whammy.

OK, I'm weird, but I love daylight saving time! I only wish we stayed on it all year instead of going back and forth.......it is hard adjusting to the change. I've been a bit high for the last 5-6 weeks, and having more light at the end of the day tends to ramp up my mood even more. Combine that with warmer weather, a little sunshine, and screwed-up sleep, and it's a recipe for mania......which doesn't bother ME so much as it does everybody else. LOL

I've been not falling asleep until the wee hours of the morning, yes I've been napping during the day - I think I might get to bed at a reasonable time tonight with no naps today tho, since its almost 2 and I'm not up yet! But this week has been heck on wheels. But once I get used to it, it'll be cool.

I rather we STAY on one or the other, no going back & forth. Since we change the clocks in early March now instead of April, and we go back in November and not October, we stay on DST much longer.

It didn't help that this morning was chilly and cloudy, and I had to get up early. Natural light wakes up my brain better than the lights in my place.....

I hope to get back to my sleep schedule this weekend, certainly by Monday. I usually go to the gym in the afternoon, but maybe I'll take a nap today instead.
