Anyone suffer from this? I've been recently diagnosed as having this and my P doc wants me to take medication typically used to treat bipolar. I have been reading up on it and do feel I have some if the characteristics, but I've never destroyed physical property or caused harm to me or anyone else. I just get really angry and over-react sometimes. What meds have you been prescribed to treat the condition and have they worked?

My last pdc thought I have IED because I've had violent rage episodes since atleast age 9 and sent a girl to hospital once, thankfully eluding any jail time. Also since carrying a bipolar diagnosis have noticed the rage episodes are independent of mood states. Since I was already medicated for bp, no changes to my med cocktail was made, but therapy was advised. Alas, since I have exited the system, I do not carry a formal diagnosis of IED, and so I just carry on removing myself from situations that make me explode.

Sorry I have not said anything helpful, but could not leave your post unanswered.

IED was one of many Dx. I've moved through. I continued on depakote (previous Dx. was bpII) at that time. Meds are hard to judge if they help.

I think my son and I both displayed some IED symptoms, but we both have just stayed at bp & adhd dx... I think we're both outgrowing it, (i dont mean to minimalize the dx or your suffering) but as in learned coping techniques, improving communication skills, working on keeping home more calm, peaceful and organized, spiritual beliefs help us personally too. He does use pot to cope, no other psych meds right now, his therapist is working with him to hopefully move away from it because he's addicted and it can make him pretty unmotivated. I take clonazapam sometimes. I'm working towards more natural non drug solutions. Therapy is a big help. He and I both had a weird random book throwing fit the other night I don't even know why and very not proud of that. But he cleaned it up on his own the next day which was unusual for what I've been through with this kiddo.

So there are so many meds you could try and there are other things that could maybe help too, like therapy, exercise, learning all you can about these dx... I'm sorry you're going through it and hope you find answers to help you.
