I was in a high state of mania and the doctors first thought it was psychosis. Then I was told their is no bipolar after psychosis and that I was in a mania that appeared as a psychosis. Anyways, I came out of that months ago and I still haven't gained back everything that I've lost. I've lost my conversational skills, confidence, self-esteem, and most of what my memory was good for. I hardly speak now in social situations and feel I'm missing from the old person I use to be. Has anyone had a similar experience? It's not the meds, it's what I've lost from mania.

I think you are bipolar but I'm not an expert. Bipolar can lead to psychosis and part of bipolar is mania. Honestly, you sound like you were psychotic. It's like mania but much more intense. There can be permanent damage as you have described.

Forgot to answer your question. Lost all my friends, memory, self-assurance, self-esteem and my job. I'm worthless in social situations. I freak out when an alarm clock goes off.

When, I'm psychotic I loose everything including most of my understanding of English. So I don't even have the words to explain what's going on with me or what's going on around me. It took me years to keep my self-esteem and confidence after an episode. I don't have conversational skills for a while after and if I crash after it's even worse to recover. I'm lucky enough to have others around me that "understand" it takes time. Please look into why you loose your self-esteem and confidence so you can run interference after.

When I went into a psychosis I don't remember coming out of it. After it had been awhile memory came back. I was in the hospital for about 15 days. I think eventually everything will come back for you. How long has it been?

Very interesting, folks. I had no idea that mania could do that to us. Loss of almost everything? Memory, language, friends, jobs, etc.? I'm sure it does take time to recover from that blow.

It's been 3 months since I've come out of psychosis/ my psychotic state. So is it lasting damage or will my whit come back to me? I feel slower, but lately things have been getting better. I'm torn between two beliefs.

Give it time. It takes a long time to recover from psychosis.
