I am looking for suggestions on what kind of information I should bring to my first appointment with a new pdoc. I have had the same pdoc for the last 7 years so I am a little rusty. Any and all suggestions welcomed. Thanks!

Imbibe the same situation coming up soon. She will have all my old notes so I hope she won't rely too much on my memory.

I'd think first about what you want to get out of this appointment/what your goals are. Are you happy with your current treatment regimen, do you think you need a change, etc.? I'd bring in a list of issues/concerns and questions, and as he will probably ask about your history, be prepared to answer those questions. You could also give your new pdoc permission to speak to your old one, to get an idea of your history from him/her. Best of luck!

Find out what to do if you are in a crisis after hours. Is there a Pdoc on call?
Will this pdoc do any med changes over the phone ? How long will it take to get a call back ? answers to questions? How are med refills done, script or faxed to a pharmacy? Best to get all of these questions answered right up front. Good Luck ![]()

make sure they listen to you. Little visual and verbal clues that they don't care or aren't taking you seriously are important. I wish I had known what to look for ...

I like that comicgeek007. It's true, some really don't listen.
I like everyone's suggestions - Christina's are some I would not have thought of. If you were comfortable, could you bring a family member or trusted friend, just to sit in on the first visit? (Is this possible during Pdoc appts?) I sometimes walk out forgetting 95% of what was said at any Dr type visit. Last edited by notALICE; Apr 10, 2013 at 07:05 PM. |
