ive been of alchol and drug free a little over nine months and i firgure it would be easy to cope with this stuff i guess u can call it.it seemed less real when i was self medicating as they call it but now it seems more real than ever.is this how i am suppose 2 feel with out it or it is normal thing 2 go through when i stopped doing the other stuff.can anyone help with this?thx james70

Hey, James70! I'm sure things seemed less real when you were self-medicating, but that's because you were keeping yourself from facing your problems. I don't know what you're dealing with, but I'm sure it's tough. But please remember that the drinking and drug use actually make things worse in the long run. If you stay the course, then things should be easier over time.

it will take more than nine months. with me this happened - i had lost lot of weight when i was doing alcohol etc. then i gained weight when i started meds. again i gained little more weight as i started to have healthy meals. i stopped meds started doing exercise and now i am in perfect condition- and actually thinking about trying for six packs! overall it took 2-3 years for all this. i am alcohol ,nicotine free since last 2 years !
