I left my job two weeks ago and I have a new one but doesn't start till the first week in may. I want to try and stop my meds during this break. I am too tired on them and just sleep 16 hours a day and I'm only awake during 11pm to 7am. They allow me to sleep way to much.

Try stopping gradually. It will be less shock to your system. Also stop them one at a time.

tapper down slowly. I recommend Icarus' guide for coming off safely.

Yes taper down slowly, and I don't think one week is enough to stabilize if things get out of control, so be careful! And call your doctor first, just to let her know. It's better that he/she knows.

Hi,
I recently stopped taking one of my meds. I couldn't reach my pdoc so I called my pharmacist and asked how to step down. Later in the week I met with my pdoc and she was ok with my decision.

You also need to be willing and ready to make the appropriate lifestyle changes to prevent the symptoms that the meds helped to prevent. Each person is different in their thinking and the ways their meds affect them, so some soul searching is in order.

Best wishes and good luck.

I had the following problem last June: I was sleeping inordinate hours - yes, 16 hours. It was partly hypersomnia as some "left-over" depression. I started working after being unemployed for 6 months and I was so much afraid that I would not make it to work in the morning. Also, I was falling asleep in meetings. It was seriously embarrassing.

Things got better over time, with some help from coffee, and stopping Depakote (which I stopped for other reasons) helped, too. The situation basically got straightened out without stopping all the medications - I did ultimately stop all the medications, but much later and not in connection with this problem.

So, this is just to mention that hypersomnia 1) may not be a result of drugs - it may be a symptom of depression or its aftermath, or, 2) if it is a result of drugs, there might be one drug causing it, so you may be OK dropping the culprit only.

I hope you succeed, any which way!

So I've been off my meds for three days and haven't experienced anything grave. Super Increased appetite and sex drive. Also something that I found amusing began again. I forgot just how much my emotions are influx wo meds. When watching a law and order svu episode about kidnapping, etc a little girl i started slowly and steadily crying. Lol I calmed down but wowzers I was upset.
