How long do manic episodes typically last? I feel elevated and GREAT but I don't know if I am just feeling better or if I am going nowhere fast because of my new meds and weaning off of meds right now.
How can I be certain it's an actual episode? I've only had one that landed me in the hospital for 17 days after I "lost" a whole week. Thoughts?

Lengths of episodes depends on the person. The 'official' criteria I think says something like minimum several days to a week. As I say, everyone's different and there are different flavors of bipolar, but I find the parameters helpful sometimes in trying to differentiate between just a 'regular' mood I'm in in a given moment, on a given day (good, not so good, anxious, something bothered me, something p.o.'d me, something made me feel good, etc.) and what might be an 'episode.' It also just *feels* completely different, but that's hard to describe. Certainly not a perfect science by any means, though! |

An episode for me is way better than feeling happy. I feel more like I have lightning in my viens. I have dysphoric mania, though, so I'm also pretty grumpy when they happen. I'm also ultradian cycerl, so my cycles rarely last more than a week.

I don't know if my answer will be helpful. When I had my manic episode it was before I was dx'd. I wasn't medicated. It lasted 2 months.

Mine too, and I'm not euphoric typically. Insomniac, angry, paranoid, argumentative, who loses cognitive functions. Like reading, driving, short term memory...
Not fun to be around.
