Are there triggers that can/could send you into an episode or mania even if you're medicated properly? Lately I've identified some triggers for my Borderline Personality Disorder, but not the Bipolar. How does it work? How can I identify triggers and how serious are they?

Triggers work pretty much the same for any dx I would think. The seriousness of the trigger depends on the severity of the reactionary episode or cycle. Alcohol is a biggy for depression I hear, although it usually just amplifies my current state. Sleep deprivation is a seemingly universal trigger for a manic episode, "seemingly" because I am one of few who function fine on very little sleep, and while I have suffered extreme agitation from a sleep deprivation experiment it didn't trigger me, I think anybody would be agitated if they didn't sleep for 4 days Triggers are personal, what may trigger you, may not trigger me, I have very few bp triggers myself, my cycles are 99% unprovoked, but feeling trapped is definitly 1 though.

Bpd? Now that is a trigger happy dx for sure, and all the usual ones apply to me

best thing to do is chart your moods over a period of time, either on paper or on a phone app. I can see through mood charting that my moods have evened out. if you write little notes to yourself about what happened that day, you might be able to identify depression/mania triggers.

i believe that my episodes are untriggered, but that i was perhaps triggered into more severe cycling by moving back to my mom's house. I will know if this is the case when we can move out in the fall.

try the mood chart, you may find you do not have triggers for bipolar but you may also be able to identify more triggers for BPD.

Thanks y'all! I have been mood charting since the 7th. It was in my workbook on DBT for BP. I see a pdoc 7/2 so I want plenty of intel for him so he can really see the bigger picture and help me.
