Anyone have some coping skills that work for depression (and EDs if you know them, too)? I feel kinda lost because my normal T and I mostly talk about what I'm feeling and never really get around to how to deal with it.

What tends to be your biggest obstacles when you're depressed?

I tend to do a lot of self-correction "YOU'RE AN IDIOT!" "No you aren't. Your brain is an idiot but you aren't." "YOU'RE UGLY AND WORTHLESS!" "My students disagree with you brain!"

I tend to set myself mini-goals when in the middle of a depression. "Today you ARE going to shower!' "Today you are going to wash those dishes NO MATTER WHAT!" "Today you are going to visit with one person." "Today you've done all those chores you needed to do... so you can veg out for the rest of the day and do nothing at all".

I message friends that I miss, and while I might not talk too much about myself, I'll ask them about their own lives and whatnot. It makes me feel less alone.
Thanks for this!

I'm on a similar wavelength as Cheshire. A lot of self correction, and just plain old distraction. My current job leaves me essentially 8 hrs to just think, which much of the time for me is a terrible thing. If I start to have a bad thought, and thank whatever higher power you're into I can listen to my ipod, I put on upbeat music I know all the words too. Usually singing, or usually just mouthing the words is enough of a distraction to at least keep me from obsessing.

I've been struggling with depression recently and have been talking about it with my therapist. Something she said to do (that i've been doing) is to just do one simple thing, everyday, that you didn't do the day before. So when I see my therapist, that's something that I didn't do the day beforebefore. (sometimes I don't shower everyday) so taking a shower can be one. Calling a friend, watching your fav tv show, etc.
