I have a lot more experience with down (only two short pdoc 'verified' hypo episodes). When I got sober and accepted the pdoc's dx, I read, and continue to read as much as I can. I stumbled upon Hemmingway's struggles with bipolar, and I already knew about his alcoholism and the way he went out.
As a bit of a creative type (and much more so back at it in sobriety) I made a deal with myself that until I create a 'Hemmingway Worthy' anything I can't consider going out the same way he did. This hasn't helped me after I've gotten to the planning phase, but given the unlikely nature of me ever achieving anything near 'Hemmingway level' it has helped me in the ideation phase quite a few times. No clue if this will help anyone else, but thought I'd share. Also don't know if this is the right place for this, so mods, if this should be elsewhere, please move it, this is just the subforum I identify with most. |

Interesting idea. If it will even help one person keep from following through with doing himself or herself in, then it would be worth your sharing this idea. Thanks.

I've done something similar: I've got a rather complicated process which must be carried out, and would take a while, so I'd have loads of time to change my mind.
I also decided that I can't confirm that the world isn't worth my time until I've seen all of it. Which is a rather impossible task! (although I am trying to see as much of it as I can!) |
