I think I've decided to try out the topamax when i go to the doc wed.
I'm just worried about the cognitive sideeffects ive heard and read about.
Anyone have and detrimental cognitive problems while on it. My GPA can't afford to go any lower, especially since i only show up for tests.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have never taken topomax but as with any med it is different for each person. If you have negative side effects you can always stop taking it. Good luck and I hope it works well for you.

It's a natural response to feel leerie of new things, especially meds, but do not let reading and hearing about the possible negative side effects sway you away, without giving something a try,but also stress to your doc, that you are concerned about your GPA,it would be a good idea. When I first was DXed,I too, was concerned with the same or similar thing, talked it over with my pdoc,so her and I kept a close line of communication.
I made honors,2 semesters in a row before I graduated, who knows, looking on a positive end,the meds may have helped me not fall back.
I understand your cautious feeling, but do not self-defeat possibilities, there are also postive side effects to meds too.
I'm sending you many warm wishes for good luck and healing.
Take care now,
DE

I've noticed that I have a little trouble with "word retrieval". It's not too bad, although I am a stay at home mom with not much interaction with the outside world, meaning, I don't talk too much.
Anyway, I think Topamax is the best thing that has happened to me. I've tried many drugs and this has been the best to level out my moods. I have also lost 25 pounds without exercize.
I hope it works well for you. Most of the unwanted side effects do go away after a few weeks.
Tracy.
