Ever since last week I felt calm and happy with what I think is a normal flow of ideas, though I have been subject to mania for so long I don't know what normal is. Anyway I'm more motivated than before. Could I have been in a low grade depprssion for so long that normal thinking seems fast?

It could very well be. It's like a scale. On one end manic. On other end depression.

We would need to discuss sleeping habits first. This is by far the best tell-tale sign of where your mind is at, at any given point.

If you think about our ancestors, sleep was never just an easy thing to attain I imagine. It takes training and in our world its become too easy.

Either way the direction you are headed should be considered. Its obvious you are having a quickening effect. Remaining calm will help you throughout while you explore your mind a bit more.

GL. You are not in danger, but you are unstable (not that its a bad thing!). Yin/Yang.

I don't personally see this as "unstable" ... maybe previous poster knows more about your situation than I do.

So often, many many people on these boards post about:
Am I bipolar, Am I manic, Am I depressed, Am I about to go into an episode, etc.
I think that's usually about the anxiety, like Oh ***** I fear another 'sode is comin on!!

But you sound more calm and curious really. That's the most important thing - how you feel about it, if you're having anxiety about normal really being mania & vice versa, or just curious, or maybe don't trust your thoughts because of past manias...

So anxiety or curiosity, tell more?
Thanks for this!

To me one of the worst things about being bipolar is the inability to enjoy felling good without worrying about going manic! Makes me mad!

I'm feeling fine. I think I'm just feeling a period of stability. It's been many many years so at first I don't think I recognised it and panicked about the mania. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts and write about it so I recognise it next time round.
