Lamictal has been a great drug for me with no real side effects. I hope you have a similar experience.
Thanks for this!

I have been on Lamictal for more than four years now. I have experienced almost no side-effects from it. As is common with many diagnosed with bipolar disorder, to have the tendency to swing into mania when taking antidepressants, I too had to be taken off of them long ago. (Wellbutrin sends me up the wall with only two doses. Most of the others accomplish it within 24 hours.)

The sole drawback of Lamictal is that it is neither effective, nor approved by the FDA, for the treatment of mania. So far, my psychiatrist and I have not found much to handle that side of the disorder--not that works for me, that is. But, we keep trying. I haven't given up. Just having the depressive episodes decreased to a minimum, compared with years ago, is gold, as far as I see it.

I took Lamictal with Lexapro for a couple months with zero results so I quit taking both. Now I take Abilify 10mg/daily and its made a considerable difference.

I used to be on Wellbutrin, with lamictal .the Wellbutrin caused a manic episode. Be careful with antidepressants. I know it's a bit off subject.

I've been on lamictal for a year and a half. Only one major depressive episode, and I don't think I'd been taking it long enough to make a difference. No help with mania, but whatcha gonna do? I do think it makes me mentally slower because my other medicines change, but that's always there. It's not enough for me to stop taking it, though.

Lamictal helps me somewhat, though not nearly as much as antipsychotics do. I need to take it mid-day because if I take it before I eat, I get sick, and if I take it in the evening, I sleep poorly. However, it DOES help with the depression, and I feel like it gives me a boost of energy when I take it. It is important to find the right dosage, so you probably should do blood tests to find your serum concentration.

Hey h33th3n-I'm bipolar II as well and an on Lamictal. I find it somewhat helpful and it hasn't slowed down my congnitive functioning at all. For me at 600mg it also has anti-depressant effects as well as mood stabilizing properties. I've found that I also need to be on a AD like Lexapro, and an AAP like Latuda as well for mood stability! For me the dosage is key...if I'm not on the right dose meds have no effect on me! Best of luck!

As you can see my treatment is mostly for depression which is what I am formally diagnosed with along with adhd.

This new doctor mentioned lamictal to me and even the idea of tapering off of other antidepressants and starting lamictal alone. I've already read some scary side effects but I've also read that it can be very helpful for bipolar 2.

Does anyone here have any experience with lamictal? I'm most concerned with cognitive impairment. Does it make you feel dopy or dumbed down at all?
some success so far, too early to tell tho

I meant to say in my post that Lamictal has been Lifesaver when regarding mood stabilization.

I'm on 225mg of Lamictal. It's good Long as you go up slowly you should be fine!

Don't worry about the side effects all too much. They are minimal comparatively to other medications.
