Ok, very very depressed right now. In reading about bipolar disorder - I have to wonder if it is describing me. I have been fired from numerous jobs - usually because of my personality. I get to the point where I am so over confident I think I can do it all - better than anyone else. Can't stand stupid people - shows on my face. I am emotional. I get irritated easily - but not always so easy. I am calm in the face of my spouse getting upset - then I am the rock. My kids are in junior high and having issues with bullies and I am finding that the parents are just as involved in the drama! Stood up for my kid the other day to a bully who admitted to me they did the bullying - but now I am in trouble and no one else. I was not loud or threatening, but approached her instead of the parent. my bad. I am extremely depressed, crying, not hungry. have been on antidepressants since 1998. I want to move away from here and start anew.
does this sound like bipolar!?!?!?!

Bipolar disorder is cyclical: periods (i.e. weeks) of depression and hypo/mania with often long periods of 'normal' in between.

The overconfidence you describe could be anything. If how you see others and yourself is interfering with your work and personal life, I suggest you see a therapist to help you with these things. If you have concerns regarding diagnosis, I would bring this up with your psychiatrist, if you have one.

Only a psychiatrist can diagnose you. We're not doctors. But we can give you lots of other kinds of support. There are some fantastic people on this forum. :-)

Hi. You may have Borderline Personality Disorder. A lot of what you describe sounds like BPD. I'm pretty sure there is a BPD forum you can check out. You didn't describe enough to indicate bipolar, but you never know. You should get a professional opinion. If you are BP, you need the right meds and good therapy. If you do have BPD you need a good psychologist, counselling and something like DBT training. Good luck and take care. Keep us informed on your progress and any other developments.

Go talk to your P-doc or T It takes a history to figure out if your BP.

BP is often really close to MDD, ADHD, CD, BPD, Scizo, and like a million others
I wish you luck,
Don't self Dx yourself focus on what you can do to help yourself. A dx should just be a stepping stone.

Best,

Lilly

man it's so easy to get diagnosed.

Just tell a pdoc or a primary care doctor and you'll be diagnosed on the spot.

If you fit the online test and the many definitions.

I really agree with this. At the end of the day all they have to go on is our own accounts, and of course, being human, we interpret our behavior, thoughts, moods, etc. in our own ways, for our own (sometimes unconscious) reasons. This is why I think it's so important for pdocs to hold off on diagnosis for a good while; until they've really gotten to know the pt over time, and perhaps witnessed moods and interpersonal interactions themselves. I think quick diagnoses are irresponsible. My 2 cents.
Thanks for this!

My GP dx'd me after knowing me for 5 years or more, seeing me in mnay different states. Other professionals had all jusmped to incorrect dx's. His was the first one which fit and felt right. Goes toshow that it's better if they know you well.

I waited almost 20 years to seek an actual diagnosis and treatment. Go see about it sooner than later is all I'll say. Management is key...

I am also going for a diagnosis. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was a child, and I worked a lot on treating it when I was an adult, I still struggle with it, but recently I began to suspect I was bp. Since then I have been doing everything in my power to research and learn about it and I am more and more convinced that I am. Of course I understand that that is on the therapist, and I am going to see two of them this week. We'll see. Regardless of how it comes out, I have all of the symptoms, including and especially the cyclical quality. I take these quizzes and at the end the computer is like 'dude, you are probably bipolar, go see a therapist', and I am reading a lot about it and it is all so resonant. It's an interesting thing, I accepted ADHD, but it never resonated, there is a sadness or some kind of vulnerability and passionate quality that you find in these threads that is extremely resonant for me. Considering this matter, gaining the frame for my experience and participating in this community has been so important and really moving and healing for me. Perhaps I will NOT be diagnosed with bp... In which case I will miss the bp forum...
Anyhow, that was a rambling share, good look to the person who started this thread!
Soon...
