Hi everybody! I'm fairly new here. I've read a lot of threads and got a lot out of it.
I haven't had much luck in the pdoc area since I returned to treatment 3.5 years ago. At the first clinic I went to, every time I came in I saw a different pdoc because the previous one had left. They kept promising me that they were getting a permanent one. I went for 6 months before I had enough. After a brief sabatical, which was awful, I found my current pdoc. I'm thinking of changing because I don't feel he is helping me in the best way. He gives me my meds on a yearly basis and has not stressed to me the importance of the combo talk therapy with the meds. I really really really don't wanna start over but I feel I don't have a choice. Winter is coming on and I get very depressed because I don't work out of the house during that time. I have no schedule and if I'm not forced into one I cannot function

Any feedback is greatly appreciated
Hugs from:

All I can say is try and find yet another PDoc, and find a therapist. In the meantime, I will pray for you.

I suggest if you can go to partial hospitalization program. It's usually 5 days a week 8-3ish for at least 6 weeks. You will see their pdoc, get group and individual therapy and they can refer you to services afterwards. I would call your pdoc or your GP for a referal.

If you're wanting therapy, then I would suggest looking for a therapist. Are you happy with the medication that you are on? If so... why not just stick with this pdoc while you find a therapist. Once you have a therapist that you are comfortable with, then decide if you are still unhappy with the pdoc and then look for another.

From what I've gathered on the boards, pdocs very, very, rarely do talk therapy anymore. You might have a difficult time finding one who is willing to do therapy with you as well.

Under the provisions of a 2004 Louisiana law, medical psychologists are permitted to prescribe medications for mental and emotional disorders.
So you may just want to find a psychologist (therapist) that you like.

I would suggest finding a therapist on your own. Your pdoc may not be stressing therapy, but you know you need that too. It's good that you know yourself and your needs.

I think most people at first anyway need a T to go along with meds .. Therapy helps you with finding triggers dealing with issues that will keep your Bipolar riled up .. As Red panda said not many Pdoc's do talk therapy anymore, and if your meds seem to work okay try Therapy. When you first see a therapist explain in detail what help you are needing such as coping skills , how to set up and follow a routine, etc

Welcome to PC

Thanks for everone's input. I know pdocs don't do therapy. I mean talk therapy along with the pdoc who works with him on my treatment. My med works great for me. I have problems with the every day life issues. I don't do well dealing with my emotions. I don't really understand how i'm feeling most the time. I feel flaky because of that. I also still get depression and aggravations. I think i will find a clinic that has both therapies. I want them to work together on my treatment plan. I like the idea of the hospital outpatient thing so long as it is temporary. They probably can get me connected with the right way to go. Thanks again!
