Last night I had my second panic attack after smoking marijuana, and last night was even worse than the first. I only took one hit, but it sent me so over the edge that every little thing was scaring me, and I was so paranoid that I was going to die or that my eyes would burst or go blind because there was so much pressure on my eyes. And my best friend did absolutely nothing to help me, in fact she laughed at me on facebook and forced me to go on a drive with her to get food when I told her I couldn't handle the car ride. I was twitching and spasming so bad that I had to call my dad to come pick me up, and all my best friend cared about was if she would get in trouble because my dad's a cop. I'm really pissed off at my friend for not taking care of me like my other two best friend's did when I had a panic attack.

Has anyone else ever get panic attacks after smoking pot?

Absolutely. The last time I smoked it I was in a hellish state all night long. This is not uncommon.

I too would be very angry with your friend. She behaved horribly in so many ways. Everything you said she did was beyond reprehensible.

Are you sure that only "pot" is in your marijuana?

How well do you know your supplier?

And, remember, if it's not legal in your state, you're messing with fire by taking it outside your home!

Of course it's illegal there as well, but you're less likely to get busted in the privacy of your own residence than you are when you bring it out into the rest of the world.

And you do realize that you can get locked up for driving under the influence of marijuana just the same as you can for alcohol?

Holy @#$%! ... I just sounded like a wet towel didn't I?

Sorry!

Personally I can't wait for it to be legalized for "medical" purposes, because that's going to be my go to of choice for arthritis pain when I retire ... But only if it's legalized by then.

I'm heap big chicken @#$%! to do anything illegal ... Bock! Bock! Bock!

In California it is legal for medical purposes (although almost anything will suffice). The pot sold at the medical marijuana stores is engineered to have very high percentages of THC, and known to cause severe paranoia and panic attacks.

Hi DrSkipper I'm not bipolar but I have had panic attacks from pot before. Different strains cause different symptoms. The problem with smoking it illegally is you usually have no idea what strain it is. So, stop it!

Pfrog, from someone who has tried pretty much everything at least once, who has not only bought but have gotten close to people who do deal on the street, it isnt worth lacing marijuana. The dealer would most likely be losing money or in the very least wasting time. If you do lace it, you announce it, as you can charge more because there is a small group of people who actually want laced marijuana. It's uncommon though. Usually when someone wants.laced marijuana they do it themselves, sprinkling coke or crushed addies/xannies over it before smoking it.

That being said smoking pot can go one or two ways. It either relaxes me or sends my anxiety through the roof. It all depends on what my mood was like leading up to smoking it. Because of this I am very picky and choosy about where and when I smoke. I don't smoke much at all anymore, it turns me into an obese potato. But when I do I am in the right state of mine and JUST want help going to sleep...or to play video games. Hehehe.

That being said I avoid drugs these days. Don't really want to call pot a drug though, I don't use like an addict.

Bla bla bla not a drug dealer disclaimer bla bla bla.

Oh ps - Smoking too much can also cause anxiety even if you were in a good mood prior to smoking. If you don't know how strong it is, take baby hits one at a time with time in between so you don't overdo it. Also your friend is a ****. Would not hang out with someone who thinks my pain is funny. Work it out or ditch them, imo.

I've been best friends with her for 9 years, but I've noticed that she's changed since she's started smoking pot. She smoked the pot too but nothing happened to her.

Everyone is different. I can smoke weed with ten other people and be the only one negatively effected. I've also been the one not negatively effected while another person is. Everyone's bodies are different.

I've had best friends for 7 years, I even paid their portion of the rent when they were on hard times. I've even fed these people because everyone has their bad moments and I loved them. They ended up screwing me. It reallly sucks, but as people grow they change.

It she means that much to you then try to express how you feel in a heart to heart, it's really all you can do.

Not to sound like a DARE campaign, but it is probably best to stay away from all hallucinogens, including marijuana. I believe they only make mental illness symptoms worse. I say this as a former abuser or weed, dxm, and lsd. I had adverse reactions and believe that abusing these types of drugs led to the development of my disorder.

Some people just dont react well to it. If this is you, dont do it. Again different strains can cause different reactions, and the state of mind you are in prior. I have never had a panic attack on it but some (very few) strains make me slightly paranoid or a little anxious but its never too bad.

2 points: no dealer cuts marijuana with stronger stuff, it would be too costly. And pot does effect people differently for sure.

It sends me in a serious paranoia to the point I feel like people want to kill me and this triggers delusions for me too. I wish I could smoke pot because I realize for many it's a good thing and helps them relax and feel better. Turns me in to a schizo.

I disagree a little there. If you were psychologically addicted and smoked a lot, then yes, it would just be like an alcoholic, medicating symptoms. But if only used when necessary and not used as an escape then I see no harm. I medicate with marijuana for sleep. I've been an insomniac for 35 years. Therapy and proper medication have only helped for a while. I see no difference in medicating with marijuana for sleep rather than pharmaceuticals. And probably less side-effects.

But I do agree that research has shown a undeveloped brain (someone I believe younger than 25) can be damaged by taking any type of drug, including marijuana.

People are so back and forth with this topic. Some people who are bipolar can take pot and be perfectly fine and in fact benefit from it, other people it gives them really bad reactions to it. My doctor has told me more than once that it can damage my brain since my brain is not fully developed yet. Hopefully it's not as bad as she says it is.

Be careful. I've seen many students completely mess up their lives due to smoking marijuana. That is one of the problems with all the talk of legalization and how harmless it is. Young people assume the same applies to their developing brains, over-indulge, and it really wrecks their lives at such a young age. Hard to watch happen over and over again with such consistency.

There is a link from smoking pot as a teenager to developing schizophrenia later in life. Researchers are not saying it will happen, just your chances of it increase. Both marijuana and schizophrenia effect the same part of the brain in a very similar way. Of course one can come back and say but what about cigarettes they can kill you. True enough, but at least they come with warnings and the public is aware of the risks. We should all be as informed as possible and as adults make our own decisions.
