I am finding myself questioning everything!! when someone replies to me, or says anything, I'm thinking the worst, I hate it when I'm like this,I try so so hard to always look at the good things, then bam! Questioning everything, I know somewhere in the back of this brain that I'm wrong, but don't even believe myself. Does anyone understand this? Right now I'm questioning if I can write a complete sentence that makes sense?? Ugh, frustration....

I do this a lot myself.

The following is not a rationalization. It is reality: other people are kinda horrible. They're horrible enough to deserve having expectations of mistrust. This is either overt (passive-aggression, pettiness, malice, etc) or from bad habits (laziness, flakiness, selfishness, etc). The net result is people are not dependable. Your brain is not "jumping to conclusions" to hurt you. These shortcuts are constructs, reinforced through complex feedback loops, to help you. Your brain evolved over millions of years to help you understand and process (as quickly and accurately as possible) the world, not make you feel guilty. Keep this in mind.

You *want* to trust people and that's cool. In some respects, it makes life easier.

...but if you mistrust these people, perhaps it's your brain tipping you off to find more trustworthy people. It's better to not get twisted up in an effort to rewire millions of years of evolution and just admit that you're surround by (attracted to?) bad people and you should stop doing that.

This exactly! Very well stated. Thank you for posting this! I could not agree more.

Oh my, so am I surrounding myself with the wrong people?? That is the question, my circle is very small. I just assumed I'm overtly paranoid...

It sounds to me like you're feeling a little uncertain about yourself is all! I find when I'm not feeling self-assured, I feel that way as well! Best of luck and hope you feel better!!

It sounds totally normal to me (as abnormal as I am). You're human. Part of our shared human condition is sometimes expecting the worst of people. Maybe it goes back to caveman days, when we had to look for things that were trying to eat us behind every bush.....

I have also done this often. I find it is insecurity with myself as I read too much into what others say. I am working on taking a remark for what it is, a remark, statement, etc. and move on. No one can define who we are, only we can do that.
Thanks for this!

I used to read into things. I kept ticking off everyone around me with it, so I backed off. Things improved.

I think I did it because of my childhood. Survival meant I had to overanalyze everything my mother said and did so that I could react properly to any given situation.

Thank you for all the replies. I try to change, but,I don't know if that will happen. I have always been this way. I really wish I could take something, and just believe it. It would make life a lot easier.

I understand how you feel completely. Even with my closest loved ones; I have a hard time believe things they say and I always assume the worst. People are always angry at me and say "everything is so black and white with you." If I fight with my significant other, I'll always jump to the fact that she'll probably leave me anyway. I just want to be better.

Yes I get you. I over-analyse every conversation I have. And if in my review I think I may have been mis-perceived I will contact that person again to clarify any misunderstandings. I even dissect conversations with strangers. I can read personal attack inot anyhting just about. It's mind-blowing and tiresome.
Good luck to you.
