I've been going through a horrible depression the past 7 weeks. I sleep 12+ hours a day, have no motivation in life, strong Sui urges and am extremely agitated and irritable. I see my therapist in 7 more days, pdoc in 10 , hopefully for a med change. That's not really long away but I have no life, no job, don't go to school, no friends, the days, despite me being asleep for half of them, are going by extremely slow and all I want to do is die. I need advice on how to get through this at least for the next week, I feel very on edge and am worried, I want to hurt myself but I'm trying not to. I've been on the verge of going inpatient again lately but I really don't want to go since the last time I went was only 6 months ago, I know if I can make it the 7 days somehow, I'll be able to make it 10. I'm hoping to get back on an antidepressant. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads/replies.

First off, congratulations for going over 2 and a half months without SI! That is a great accomplishment in itself. I have gone about the same amount of time. Go us!

This sounds like you are in a crisis situation. During a crisis, there are coping skills you can do to get through each day one at a time. I have been there, and had depression for years, and I still get it on and off. My diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type. So i definitely get depressed. One skill I use is "opposite emotion" which is a skill from DBT therapy that I am in. This means that when you feel one emotion, do something that is the opposite. For instance if you are angry, listen to calm music. If you are depressed, watch some funny videos on youtube or on TV. For me, I get upset, and I watch Family Guy on the TV. It helps me. Just doing little things like that could help you too. it is ok to be depressed, and don't try to fight it too much. Do these little things but also know that the depression is not going to kill you. You can get through this without SI or suicide. And you will. I am not going to tell you to go exercise or any of that. If you can, that's great. But I know thats the last thing I want to do when severely depressed! I need simple things I can do very easily. Like turn on the television, or get online and talk to people. Talking helps me a lot. Take it one hour at a time if you need to, or even one minute at a time. But tell yourself you will get through this. It will not last forever, and all you need to do is get through 1 week. What skills have you used in the past to not SI? Keep doing those. Ultimately you know what works for you. How did you get through yesterday? Do that today too.

Congrats to you as well for being SI free

I really like the idea of ''opposite emotion'', I may try that. To stop SI'ng I use a rubber band on my wrist so I can snap it and feel a little sting. I'll try doing that again.

I will try to use my coping skills and see how the next few days go, honestly I haven't been using them because I just gave up on everything in life, including getting out of bed.

Thanks for your reply!
