I am seeking a rescue method for hypomania which is accelerating to full blown mania that is not a pharmaceutical.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Exercise induces exasstion.
Counting backwards with your breathing and if a thought breaks through starting again. I have only ever got to 89.

If your not against melatonin then that. In low doses it slows you down a bit.

Meds or any supplements are not an option. Thank you for replying.

Jogging, running, even walking. Think of a way to work off some of that energy.

I always take a long hot shower with a 10-minute timer to make sure I stay in there long enough. I often want to get out mid-way and have found that if I can just stay under the water and visualize the results I want from my efforts it often helps. I tend to come out calmer and even a bit sleepy depending on what time of day it is or how exhausting my manic state has become.

SLEEP. On a schedule---regular bedtime, regular wake-up time, every single day including weekends. Do not deviate from it for any reason other than a true emergency, like rushing your mother to the hospital. If you can't sleep, get up and do some low-stimulus activity like reading a boring book, then go back to bed when you get sleepy.

Lather, rinse, repeat if you still can't doze off within 30 minutes. In the meantime your body will be getting rest even if you're not sleeping well, and after a while it becomes routine and your body becomes trained to get sleepy around the same time each night. I tell you, this helps immensely---I didn't believe it until my pdoc pretty much demanded that I try it, and I do think it's helped me to stabilize even when meds weren't doing the whole job.
