I went to planned parenthood. They advise you do it on your period. I did that and has minimal pain. My friend who had her kids and then was done got an iud with no plans about when on her cycle to go. She said it was extremely painful.

I have also been looking for other birth control options, I'm currently on the depo shot, and also take Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. I've been on some form of birth control or another for over a decade, more than 5 years prior to being diagnosed bipolar, because I also have endometriosis. I am too forgetful for pills, allergic to the patch, I was on Nuvaring for a while, but that went MIA one day and I freaked out (turns out it fell out and the dog chewed it up), and I'm not allowed the IUD because I've had an abnormal pap, and have to have 3 clear ones first. So that leaves me just about out of options, and since I've already been on the depo 4 years, 2 years longer than the maximum recommended time, I'm trying to figure it all out. My husband and I are at least 3 years away from even considering children, provided I get the all clear first from my psychologist (neither of us have any yet), but does anyone have any experience with the arm implant?
Sorry for the long winded post, it's just been one of those issues eating me up, and I've got 2 months until my next gyn and psych appointments. |

I have a mirena, and I love it!
The insertion sucked, but it was over pretty quickly. Its a very strong cramping pain, that's about it. I just told myself that it doesn't hurt as much as a baby! When I went for my check up I told the doctor that the one thing I would do differently next time is to ask for pain meds for the few days after. The cramps and lower back pain were nasty. It lasted about three days. I would do it again. I plan on having a new one every five years until menopause. Best birth control ever! |

I've not ever had an IUD, and my gyn said that I'm not allowed to until I have 3 come back clear, because last year's PAP was abnormal and I had to have tissue removed for biopsy.
