I stopped taking my medication (Lithium and Propranalol) about 6 months ago. I felt so good on the medication that I started thinking maybe I wasn't Bipolar after all or maybe I didn't even need meds... yeah. That wasn't it at all. I relapsed with the most severe manic episode since diagnosis.

Now in order to save my health, sanity and relationship I am getting back on medication today (as well as joining this forum, writing in my daily blog, getting therapy, studying the illness, etc.) I am extremely happy to be getting back into the positive groove of getting help willingly but I must say this morning has been super anxious, restless and nervous nonetheless.

I feel like stopping my meds was the worst thing I could've done. It's not that I'm nervous to be back on them...I guess I'm just nervous that even though I'm getting help now that it may be too late to reverse the negative effects my last manic episode had on my life.

Any positive words are appreciated. Gotta push through!

Good luck in starting meds again. I felt the same way in December. Thankfully nothing terrible happened without it, just a moderate depression that made me decide maybe it's best to be on it if I don't want to feel like crap. I didn't get to the manic phase, good thing I guess.

Be well!

The doctor is trying me on Depakote instead of Lithium this time. This will be my first experience with it but I like that it isn't hard on my kidneys like the Lithium (I have kidney problems in my past) First dose is tonight. I will keep everyone updated!

My body most have lith. I was diagnosed Aug 2012 and was a mess. Diff meds were tried then I was put on lith in Oct 2012. It was just what I needed. I went off lith end of May 2013. I was hospitalized I. June and July for mixed episodes with extreme mania. I also experienced psychoses. I went back on lith the middle of July and have not been hospitalized since.

Chic14, Medicine can be a hit or miss at times but sometimes all it takes is a little patience and adjusting. Let me know how you are feeling!

Coco, I had a similar feeling with Lithium. It *really* kept my head straight, and before I got on it and after: I was such a mess. I personally love Lithium *but* with my kidneys already being a problem I have to check out my other options. I'm so glad that you are doing so much better.
