I think she knows her stuff clinically, but I still get a vibe like something is missing. She also asked if I want therapy. I said yes. She then talked about groups. I don't like groups. So I don't think I'm on the books for therapy. And then my next appointment isn't for 8 weeks. I'm supposed to have MORE appointments at t his place, not less! I guess if I need to I can call? Not only that, when I went to get my lithium level checked at the place I always do, they had me give them my insurance card! They never have done that before! all because of this new place.

Have you considered seeing a psychologist who is not your psychiatrist? Perhaps you would prefer meeting one-on-one with a therapist to being in a group session? Do you know why your psychiatrist recommended a group?

If you are high risk you would be seen sooner than 8 weeks, maybe 2 weeks at the most.

Therapy would also be recommended, especially if high risk, and you don't have to have group therapy.

I've been through 3 pdoc offices and rarely went more than 2 weeks without another appointment unless I was stable which was rare.

Maybe you haven't found the right team of people who care aboout your care?

I agree with Jesusplay about the regularity of appointments. My psychiatrist and I meet fortnightly, with a phone check-in between appointments. She said that we can go to a less regular setup when I'm more stable.

are your telling her everything?

When I first started seeing pdocs I use to just be quiet and answer their questions.

Now I talk til I'm blue in the face to make sure they understand I'm not right!

Hi Moose,

For me, I see my psychologist for therapy and that is every two weeks. I refuse to do group therapy, and this is okay. I see my pdoc every 3-5 months unless I am unstable and need med adjustments.

I am a lot more honest and open with my t. I am just friendly with my pdoc, and only tell her concerns that the t asks me to share-or sometimes I use my own judgement on this.

I find it confusing that your pdoc did not schedule some type of evaluation to determine your current status. My providers both did their own testing when I began with them even though they were provided my records from other places.
Are the pdoc and therapists in the same group/practice? I would call and voice concerns with the pdoc either over the phone or through another appointment.

Maybe philosophies are different in other places, but here the pdocs I have worked with have encouraged me to attend therapy as part of my treatment plan. The same goes for my son.

I hope that you are able to get answers to your questions soon.

Seeing a T weekly could be more helpful than seeing the pdoc more often. Goodluck

I've been seeing a T weekly since beginning of this year. It's annoying but it gets me out of the house.

You pdoc has your notes to your t seasons right? That generally is the only way my pdoc knows what's really going on with me. I would love weekly sessions ( not at the beginning) but gas sucks. If you get medicaid ask for a non emergency medical transportation form.

Glad u saw ur new pdoc a 2nd time I hope it went well. I see mine every three months for routine check up but I can go as a walk in or schedule as needed. I see my T weekly. I must have my talk therapy it's a must for me. I worked in mental health for a few years but I had not had my bipolar onset during those years.

My onset was in 2011 after I had a surgery and my symptoms started kicking my axx in 2012. I've been going to weekly T since. First I had to learn to accept my diagnoses. Then I felt so much hate toward my family for hiding mental illness. I also felt like God was punishing me and I still battle this feeling. I try to work on coping skills. I do relapse and that's why I keep going. I need to try harder on controlling anger.
