I have noticed that so many people have diagnoses other than BP. I'm wondering who, what and how many. I'd do a poll, but don't know how to set one up.

I've got social anxiety (official) and I think schizotypical personality (self-diagnosed). In other words, not only do I have mood swings, I'm a weirdo hermit.

I am also probably a shy weirdo (now known as schizotypal), but I am so schizotypal that I just lol at the mere existance of the cathegory.

I have bad anxiety (worse then BP, imho). Probably ADHD, not sure. It came out during a skill testing from dept. of employment. Never had it tested by shrink.

Oh and I have trauma issues, unresolved grief issues.

And scoliosis.

But I have roof over my head, water i can drink (without "dangerous face" in it), enough food, great friends, herd of cats... my brain, my skills, my determinance... I think I have future still. Coulda been worse.

I have Bipolar II, Purely Obsessional OCD, Musical Hallucinosis and ( Hairpulling, Skin picking, eye picking all part of my OCD coping mechanisms) I was Diagnosed with GAD but turns out thats actually a symptom of my Pure O.

I don't particularly care about labels, but knowing why I am the way I am has actually made a huge difference and I have gotten my Pure O under great control since it was given a name and I was able to understand it.

My understanding from reading is that it is common for people with MI to have several. I often wondered if I really had all these things and seeing how many people here have the same has helped me to come to grips with the very obvious fact that I do. I think that maybe ADHD for me is more mania. But have been dx with ADHD, bipolar 1, OCD

I don't have an official diagnosis of anxiety, but I do have anxiety which my pdoc says is part of my BP. He doesn't feel the need to put a whole alphabet soup of MH diagnoses behind a person's name---he treats the PATIENT not the dx.

I have had lots of great diagnoses over the years, and I also work with folks who have different types of illnesses. My doctor now says it doesn't really matter what the label is, the only thing it's really good for is figuring out which meds might work. I often say that people end up diagnosed with ABCDEFG. To date, mine are depression, Generali zed anxiety disorder, Adhd, cyclothymia, and most recently BPll. When I look back at it, I think my symptoms can all be attributed to BPll. Who knows.

This is fascinating. Or thought-provoking anyway. I was sure I'd been dx'd with OCD, and then when filling out a form (not insurance), my psych wrote GAD. Which I didn't have a clue. But didn't write OCD. I've been perplexed ever since. (But haven't been able to afford an appt. since to find out more.) It might well be something like this. Hmmmm.

So yeah, BP, ADD, and OCD and/or GAD. Whatever. It might be just as accurate to say an amusingly odd space bird crossed with a rabid wolverine. (BF was teasing me just tonight about my amusing oddity, lol. Cluelessly dropping money --which I can't figure out how I got it or if I just keep counting wrong-- out of my wallet -- which is tied to my purse due to a mixed ep breakdown episode-- leaving half-taken meds on the stove or floor… nothing surprises him anymore. As he'd say, "the list goes on…" )

I have like a grocery list of illnesses lol.

Schizoaffective disorder bipolar type
Seasonal affective disorder (winter blues)
Autism spectrum disorder (I have high functioning autism)
OCD, PTSD, and GAD
ADHD combined type

Borderline personality disorder is suspected and my therapist says I have it, but idk if my psychiatrist has it documented. I also have several other mental illnesses I have not listed here because I'm not very open about them and I might have even more depending if my psychiatrist has diagnosed me with anything else and has yet to tell me.

I also have temporal lobe epilepsy
gastro-esophageal reflux disease
Irritable bowel syndrome
Endometriosis (which is the worst)

This is me. My pdoc hasn't put a label on it, but I'm noticing my anxiety is up there now for a couple of months. The Geodon helps tremendously with it, but I do feel I have generalized anxiety disorder as well as BP

BP2.

My T and I also both think AvPD.

I have a lot of anxiety which would be related to the bp2 and AvPD.

Trauma (emotional and physical - but the physical head knocks are NOT abusive in nature!)

I also have, according to people who know me well, little traits of OCD and ADHD. hahahaha. I need things to be a certain way and if I have a routine set up DO NOT MESS with it. Those are by far just things I consider "quirks".

To me, the diagnosis itself doesn't matter at all. It's just nice to know that I fit in somewhere and being able to sort of trace back my thought patterns and behaviours.. and to know that I'm not just bonkers that it's a common enough thing for there to be diagnoses about it.

And knowing that my T thinks I've got AvPD was comforting - because it really is how I think and feel but it's not really noticeable in my behaviours. So it was nice to have some confirmation that I'm not just imagining it.

BP2, DDNOS, Social Phobia, Impulse Controle Disorder (all diagnosed). Possible PTSD/trauma related issues. Also maybe a sleep disorder or a weird form of epilepsy idk. I'm working with a neurologist to figure it all out.

It's a fun mix, but the only one I really struggle with right now is the social phobia (it's the most distractive), and the trauma stuff. I don't regret any of it... most days.
