I have been to my psychiatrist twice. Both times he was late. I make a 30 min appointment. The first time he was five minutes late and I was not certain if he extended this by five minutes or not. This time I made a note of it. This time he was 10 minutes late and definitely did not extend the appointment time. I am wondering if this is standard or should I start looking for a new pdoc before I get too attached.

Being 5-10 min late is pretty typical for most doctors I've seen. If it annoys you, remember that they're probably late because they are helping another patient. Hopefully when you're having a really bad time, they'll give you a few extra minutes too.

I can understand how frustrating it can be for them to be late though. I always have anxiety before my appointments, and the sooner I can see the doc, the sooner I can calm down.

If they're late they should be extending your time. If not - I'd find a new doctor.

That's very common. If they don't extend your time, I would see someone else, unless they're really good at their job or a good fit for you.

I manged to milk an extra 15 minutes out of my last session with my pdoc talking about Rorschach ink blots and the mmpi2

All of my pdocs routinely ran behind with appts. That's how I look at it, I would hope if I were in real distress, they would take the time to make sure I was going to be ok when I left their office.

One of my pdocs is almost always late, and depending on my state I may only be in with him for 15 minutes but if I am having a hard time he is happy to see me for longer (longest I think was 45 minutes)

My other pdoc/T is always ON time, and we never finish any later than we are supposed to. I think I went over by 5 minutes last ap cos they were admitting me but that is the only time it has happened.

My pdoc can be up to 2 hrs late. He gives each of his patients the time they need.

If a pdoc is consistently late over an extended period of time, something over lets say 15 minutes, I would take it up with them. If it is consistent enough, they should compensate for it in their schedule. And they should not be charging for the time they are absent, or make it up to you by being willing to extend their time with you.

JMO of course.
