Well, I got the letter from the unemployment office yesterday, they are denying my application. I don't know why, that letter is in the mail, supposedly.
I can't find a job. I'm a RN and Its like I'm toxic. I've been fired twice in the last two years and I have a misdemeanor conviction for battery. I'm back in school, but it's not enough to get a loan or tuition assistance. Any suggestions? Could I possibly qualify for disability? That's the last thing I want, but I need to provide for my kids. Tia William

Disability takes awhile and documentation of the disability should be confirmed through drs that have treated it and the reports of what has been tried in the past to overcome it. Disability can take a year or more but a disability attorney might be able to help things move faster but $$$$$ build up. Good luck.

Im on disability and it didnt take too long i just got approved and I think I applied around september, I went into the hospital on June 27th with a major manic episode then 3 weeks later they let me out went straight into another hospital for another month so I had lots of documentation I never even thought of disability but i was contacted by a company called Avantage 2000, I think they must work with my old jobs disability program because with all this i started getting short term disability paid for by my old job which has now turned into long term disability...they helped me through the process and now ive been approved, will get a payment end of feb. I don't really want to be on disability but my doctor said she doesnt think im ready for work again...both of my manic episodes happened when i was at new jobs ( that were stressful) being a RN I would figure you would have jobs begging for you~...I hope you can work it out whether you find a job or try disability.....good luck!

Yeah, you'd think I could find a job. My problems are this: 1) I've been fired several times over the last three years. 2) I have a misdemeanor conviction for "simple battery" - My ex and I got into a tussle, I got charged and plead down to a misdemeanor. I have three more years till I can attempt to get it expunged. 3) in my speciality there are really only two companies left in the country. I've been blackballed at both of them. 4). I can't even get an interview at a hospital for a regular floor job. I don't know what the hell is up with that. The only thing I can figure is the history of being fired.

Oh, and I'm BPII. I've only been hospitalized once and that was for a suicide attempt (after the tussle with the ex. I was so ashamed I tried to hurt myself). I'm tall, fairly good looking, well spoken..... I have a feeling I'd get laughed at if I tried to file for disability.
I can't give the kids back to my ex. At the best they would be sent off to boarding school by her lover or worse, she and them would be kicked to the curb. Ugh...... If it was just me, I'd be quite happy to live in a tiny trailer and be a mechanic. I don't need much. But I have three sons who count on me. I have their bills to pay. I have them to educate and raise to be good young men.

You can appeal the UI denial, and you should. But there's a time limit---don't know exactly how long, maybe 30 days, maybe more---so you'll want to get it done ASAP. This is where you need to get documentation from your pdoc, and therapist if you have one, as to your mental state and difficulty "playing well with others" so to speak. These are mitigating circumstances, and they could make a difference because the firing was due to factors related to your disability.
It's a long shot, to be sure, but you've got nothing to lose by trying. In the meantime, I'd file for SSDI yesterday, even though denial is likely. But I wonder, can you not get veterans' benefits? You are indeed partially disabled by your illness.....seems like there's something the VA could do.

I get $127/mo from the VA for hearing loss.... That was like pulling teeth.
Believe it or not, I had to get a psychiatrist to say there was nothing wrong with me to get into the Corps. If I had been diagnosed while in the marines, I'd be set. But since I wasn't, it's not service connected and they won't cover anything, not even my meds. According to my W-2's I make too much money and I don't qualify for VAhealth services.

Can you apply for housing public housing (it's not the best but you don't have to worry about eviction.) ? It takes a couple of months. Food stamps and Medicaid. Each go off of your income for the last year. You may be able to get cash assistance with your case worker filling a dfart form and faxing it to your psychiatrist. Disability can take over a year and a half to get. If you look into vesit they might help you find a job because of your disability.

Well.... I had a great interview with a VA hospital on the N. Side of Chicago. There are 35 other applicants for one job.... But because I'm a veteran and disabled (hearing damage) I get placed at the top of the list.
The unit manager seemed to really like me and my views on nursing (nothing is beneath me or not my job). She also said that since my file made it through the initial screening process, I'm good to go as far as my conviction is concerned. She was also super impressed that I'm enrolled in two different programs. One to finish my BS and one to become a "Legal Nurse Consultant". It's a super low stress environment and I think I really need that. Looking back, Every problem I've had has been when the stress level has gotten abnormally high. Light a candle and say a prayer!!!

Well.... I got turned down to drive a forklift. It's been 9 yrs since I've driven one, so evidently that's too long.... I also got turned down for a warehouse supervisor job. Evidently "my story is too complex", whatever that means.
I sent my resume into 20 or so pharmaceutical and medical device sales agencies. I'm certified for both jobs.... But no sales experience..... Studying for my on-line classes.... They don't start till next month, but I figure what the heck. I'm working on week 3's reading now...... It kills me that I didn't have the self control to keep my last job. I loved the work. I loved the people. The situations weren't always great, but they never are. If I had kept that job, I could have made $80k this year. Debts would have been paid off and I woulda been able to put money into savings. As it is, I'm emptying what little savings I have. Ugh. This blows. I'm overqualified for most jobs so they don't think I'll stay. I'm evidently under qualified for the jobs that would suit me. I can't seem to get any traction on jobs I am qualified for. I also found out that the VA job went to someone else..... Big scary guy gets passed over again.

Well, I MIGHT have a job. A recruiter thinks he can get me into a dialysis clinic for a 13wk contract. If I can get my foot in the door, and manager to keep my nose clean, I'll be ok.
The only problem is that the job is in Indianapolis, about 2.5hrs from home. That's a bridge to cross if I ever get there. I'm not holding my breath.

Hang in there devil dog. I'm a former as well with bp1, ptsd, adhd. Feel you on the va benefits. Had my dx before I joined as well. Have multiple assaults on my record too. All reactionary, but the police tend to fault the victor. It's tough man, you keep hammering, something will come along. Oohrah!!
