I went to my pdoc last week and totally forgot to ask about the possibility of switching from Depakote to Lamictel. I am currently on Depakote 1000mg a day and Zoloft 75mg. I was so stupid I also forgot to say I have been getting tremours since upping the anti d a few weeks back. Nonetheless he is going to do a routine blood test.

I was freaked out last night. I was getting the christmas decorations ready and being busy and then all of a sudden felt so weak I had to collapse down and eat pretty quickly. Then I layed down and fell asleep, I just couldnt move an inch! Got the same this evening but not as bad as yesterday.................it almost feels like too low blood pressure (have this anyway) and the body shaking was terrible.

Anyone know what this might be - have been on meds for 6 months or is it simply overdoing things, although I didnt feel right at all. Thanks all.

Don't know about the weakness. I was on Depakote & didn't have any side effects except it didn't really help with the depression. It did help with the agitation (I was in a mixed episode). I did elect to find a new doc when he wouldn't switch me to something else. I was still depressed!

New doc put me on Abilify & Lamictal as well as anti anxiety drug, one to help me sleep & one for ADD. My dx is bipolar 1.

Hope your doc is responsive to you & your concerns. I would notify him immediately of your symptoms. Take care.--Suzy

Babs, I was on Depakote, and I hated it, I had all the side efects there are.
I went off it for my own and my families safety. I couldn't even drive after 4:00 in the afternoon.
Talk to your Pdoc.
hang in there.

Hi Suzy, thanks for your reply. I suffer more with depression and have had only one hypomanic episode which was in May this year, hence the diagnosis of bipolar 2. I live in the UK and am not sure if Abilify or even Lamictal are available here? I also suffer with anxiety a great deal in the day time, I did explain this but he didnt give me anything. I was in a bit of a state in there as am having therapy and was mostly talking about that! It is a new doc as well.

I am rapidly gaining a lot of weight too on Depakote and am not happy about this - he then said "do you feel your mood is better on Depakote?" and that I should stay on it as it outweighs the weight gain! I couldnt take it all in to be honest.

I will call him tomorrow.

I did gain like 10 pounds in 3 weeks, and I don't like that at all, my clothes started to not fit at all, it was depressing.
My mood was actually worst and I was feelin really numb most of the time.

Biplol, When I first started taking Depakote I just couldnt drive for a few weeks it was pretty scarey! Even now I tend to lose my concentration a bit and am worried that I would now have to declare to the DVLA that I have a medical condition! Yes I feel numb most of the time too and I just will not get on the weighing scales but I know that I have definately gained weight.
