I have been taking Lamictal for 6 weeks today and I am feeling more and more anxious for no reason. Is this a normal side effect.

Absolutely, I just read about that, anxiety thing. Lamictal made me too happy. It did help with my seizures.

It's helping with some of my symptoms but the anxiety is really bad..leaving me frustrated. I feel like I am between a rock and a hard spot.

Lamictal has not increased my anxiety to a noticeable degree. But I still have problems with a type of hypomania, a restlessness and agitation, which is different from anxiety.

I have social anxiety disorder but now I just feel anxious without anything triggering it. It's weird. I was fluctuating between hypomania and depression. When i started the meds I was really irritable. Going grocery shopping without losing my cool was a chore and work, we won't go there. The meds hsve helped me with the extreme irritability but i am still depressed and now anxiety ridden more frequently.

Neither do anything for my anxiety - it's out of control.

Either start cleaning obsessively or try something else.

Wow, Tegretol and Lamictal? They both do the same thing so why two?

I have noticed that I gain a lot of new symptoms as I increase my dose of Lamictal, all are more on the hypomania side of things. Irritation, anxiety, spontaneous crying and anger... for me it started to level out after about two weeks on a stable dose. I'm still increasing though.

Doing something I love helps with the agitation sometimes. It's better if it's something that involves moving around. For me, sewing is good because I have to lay things out in another room to pin then come back in to sew. Sitting in one place for a long time sometimes makes it worse.

Also exercise/yoga helped a lot. On nights where I couldn't sleep because my skin was crawling from all the excess energy, I got up and exercised vigorously for a while. I felt instantly better.

I have been exercising more and writing more bd reading more none of which I could do a few months ago...so I try to keep that in mind. But the heightened anxiety is not good.

I find that a 5mg dose PRN of Zyprexa does the job when I become too restless and agitated and compelled to act on my impulses, for lack of better words.

It was my understanding that Lamictal is used for Bipolar Depression and Tegretol for Bipolar mania. Although I don't quite believe that and I'm going to see if I can get off the Tegretol because of side effects.

I did not have anxiety while titrating up on lamictal.
Got up to 400mg at one time & was no batter than at 200mg so weaned back down.
Still deal with some low grade depression.
There is a fine line for me, sometimes if I go over 150mg I don't sleep.
Pdoc has me *tweak* it as I have been on it so long & been with him so long.
Can't take AD's they send me past mania right into psychosis.
Don't know if this helps.

I've been on Lamictal for almost 3 months and I swear the stuff is causing my anxiety to rise. I'm planning to titrate my dose and go off the stuff...I just haven't felt any positive effects from it.

It's odd I get knots in my stomach as if I am going for an interview or giving a speech but I'm not! I really don't have anything different going on. Same **** different day.

I get alot of relief from lamictal. I'm on 400mg a day. It levels out my mood and keeps my irritability to a manageable level. So I haven't had any trouble while taking it. But it's not for everyone. I hope you find something that helps you. Good luck
