First, the most urgent mater: I NEED A PDOC!! I finally got some fancy insurance and so I have been looking for a pdoc to start going to regularly. Here's the rub: all the good ones ether A) won't take insurance or B) are not accepting new patents. Looking for word of mouth on this one. Is there someone here willing to recommend a pdoc in the Austin area?

My other bit of news is I have been baseline for six weeks. This is the longest that I have ever been able to stay in a single state for years and is a huge step forward. Even me and the GF are getting along! This calm has been brought about by major changes in my lifestyle. I am not going to name those changes here as they are widely accepted as things that would make bipolar symptoms worse. Which makes me conclude that I might not have bipolar. Don't get me wrong, I know I got some gears loose upstairs but I think I might have been misdiagnosed. Regardless, until a pdoc tells me otherwise I am going to stick with the meds and treatment that were prescribed

You only ever see nurses and they are all overworked/inexperience/just flat out don't care for your safety. When I first went there for help I was turned away because, and I quote "you don't have that kinda vibe". After I was finally accepted in, the nurse basically threw darts at a book to prescribe me meds, some of those combinations were listed in WebMD as having interactions. My GF had to do all the research and tell the nurse what to prescribe. When I was in between Integral Care and LoneStar Circle of Care and needed a refill of my meds before I could be seen by the new doc, the nurse refused to write a script for even a weeks worth of medications. I ended up having to go to a friend (a pdoc) and tell them I was diagnosed with bipolar and needed a med refill to get me to my next doc.

Unless you have no other choice DO NOT use Integral Care!

I pay very good money for insurance so that my illness can be treated properly and so I do not have to rely on these "last hope" services. I have spent a lot of time online looking for pdocs. Right now I am asking you guys if there is a SPECIFIC pdoc you recommend. Not a service or mental health center. I know of all of those in the Austin area already and know them well enough to avoid them.

Have you gone through everyone in your insurance book?

Sorry for the long wait. It's been a crazy week

Humana is not making it easy to find a pDoc. The only way to find a pdoc is to call them or go searching online for pDoc's and call them up and ask if they take insurance. With both ways it is very frustrating. When I look up the docs on my own I can find very highly recommended ones only to have my hopes dashed when they tell me they are not taking patients or won't take my insurance. On the flip side I call humana and all they know is that the pdoc is available and taking their insurance, so after they give me a name I look them up and find out everyone avoids them like the plague. It's an exercise in futility.

I thought having insurance would make getting treatment EASIER. Guess that just isn't the case.

I ran into this too. my insurance has a thing on their website where I can find "behavioral health" providers within X miles of my address that take my insurance (it's called "find a doctor" on Anthem's website). see if you have something like that. Then you have to go through and cross off everyone who isn't a psychiatrist, then try to google reviews/info on the ones that are left, then call the ones that you think might work and find out if they are taking new patients. then I found out most of the ones that were left had a long waiting time to get in, like 6-8 weeks. I started with a list of maybe 20 docs and ended up finding ONE that was actually responsive, had good reviews, and was taking new patients and then it took me 8 weeks to get an appointment. it sucks.

Yeah, that sounds like my situation.

Humana has a "find a doctor" page as well, but on that page they tell you to call if you want a mental health doctor. And you know how long it takes to get a hold of an actual PERSON on those phone lines. It becomes a very clumsy, time consuming project.
