Is this "normal"?

Lately I've been getting home from work and after dinner I head off to bed, not to sleep, but to live in my own little Marvel comic book story line. I spent hours on these stupid fantasies. Is this "normal" bipolar behaviour or is this something new or am I just lazy? I'm assuming it means I"m not happy with my own current circumstances, but I'm afraid it may soon consume all waking thoughts!

Any input?

We all need some escape now and then. Lately I'm also fixated on the Marvel Universe. I've been watching Thor, Marvel's The Avengers, Thor The Dark World. Hell, I can even recite dialogue along with the movie Thor: "Our dearest friend banished, Loki on the throne, Asgard on the brink of war, and you've managed to consume 4 wild boars, 6 pheasants, a side of beef, and 2 casks of ale. Shame on you, don't you care?" "Do not mistake my appetite for apathy!" "Stop it, both of you!" Don't get me into the Warriors Three and Heimdall conversation (oh, I have to get out more! ). Chris Hemsworth is the new love of my life. But I know it will pass because I went through an Elliott Stabler phase several years ago. I used to dream I was in the SVU squad.

OMG! I totally imagine myself married to Bruce Banner in these fantasies. I love all the Marvel movies, can't wait to see Captain America, but most of all I enjoy my OWN story lines and... OMG!
Now that you mention it, I was totally infatuated with Robert Goren of Law and Order Criminal Intent! We were an item in my head for weeks! I guess I'm in to big (and physically big) nerds. Then there was Agent Hotchner from Criminal Minds...
I'm seeing a pattern here. But when is it too m uch? When is it time to turn off the tv in my head????

I reckon a certain level of obsessiveness is bipolar linked. I can often link my over enthusiastic mindset to hypo-mania . I don't usually see it until the episode has passed. Maybe you can just take it as a queue to look out for yourself more perhaps seeing it may prevent a hypo episode. I don't think your lazy just otherwise engaged and expanding on what makes you interested.

Hmm...for some reason I didn't link it to obsessive thoughts but that's exactly what it is. I'm obsessed with this current fantasy. I'm concerned because I started new medication and it's and anti depressant but I'm bipolar. I'm concerned it may be pushing me towards a manic episode. I guess I should be careful and aware of what else goes on in my life.

If you like Vincent D'Onofrio, you might be interested to know that in the movie Adventures in Babysitting, he played a mechanic named Dawson, whom the young girl Sarah, a fan of Thor, thought was Thor.



Sarah: [about Dawson] Its Thor!
Brad: No it's no not Sara.
Sarah: [to Dawson] Don't listen to him, he says you're a homo.
Dawson: [Angrily grabs Brad by shirt] You spreading lies about me, kid?
Brad: [Nervously] Who, me? Never!

Sarah: Hey, wait! I know why you aren't acting like yourself. You don't have your special helmet!
[off the look Dawson gives her]
Sarah: See you have the baseball cap, but you're supposed to be wearing this
[takes off her Thor helmet]
Sarah: Here, take mine. Go on, take it!
Dawson: You're giving this to me?
Sarah: Well, yeah, you're my hero!
Dawson: [Smiles] Here. Here, take the car.
[Tosses Chris the keys]
Sarah: Thanks, Thor.
Dawson: Hey kid! I got one of these at home
[throws Sarah's helmet back]

And you think you got fantasy issues!?

I think it will turn off by itself when it's run its course. Mine does.

LOL!!!! Yes! While I was obsessed with "Vinnie" I looked up all the movies he's been in and I watched them, including the Babysitter one.

For a while I was hooked on The Sopranos and was obsessed with Tony Soprano. I was devastated when James Gandolfini died. There ended my fantasies in the mob world.

I suppose you're right. It is a pattern and it will run it's course. I think the reason it worried me most is because it started just as I started a new medication. I'm upping the dose again tomorrow so I'm very vigilant as far as my routines go. I don't want to get lost in the movie in my head and become catatonic for months! I doubt that would ever happen...but its a thought that crosses my mind!! lol

"Normal?!" What is normal? Ya'll sound normal to me - normal for yourselves that is. If I were to pick up a Marvel Comics fantasy, that would not be normal for me - but that's only me. In my mind, I'm married to Catherine Zeta-Jones - but I'm older so it's OK.

I do this too, not just with Marvel but with Doctor Who, Buffy and other storylines. It helps me dream about them. I have some really epic dreams some nights. Its a nice escape from reality! Also thinking about these things before I sleep helps keep the ruminating thoughts at bay. I see this as a coping strategy.
