Does this make any sense? I have constant headaches and back and shoulder and arm pain while depressed. Then if my mood switched, it's all gone? I've been telling my pdoc and therapist this and they have no comment. My upper body hurts so bad I want to put a bullet in the back of my head!

I message my regular doctor because something else has to be wrong with me!

Pain can be a symptom of depression, so it's possible. Serotonin inhibits pain stimuli from reaching the brain, so lack of serotonin can theoretically cause benign sensations to be interpreted as pain, and serotonin can be lacking in depression. That's why things like fibromyalgia common occur comorbidly with depression. I'm not sure if that's what's happening for you, but it's possible.

That is just weird! I don't even know what to say to that. Maybe somehow yr body gets relaxed when yr mood shifts?? I would think you'd tence up. I'm sorry yr in so much pain. Maybe you are suffering from fybro? But that still doesn't explain how the pain goes away when yr bp acts up. Sorry I don't have any answers but I empathize with you. I suffer from back pain. Maybe you need an mri where yr pain is. Take it easy. We're here for you.

I have a chronic neck injury that drives me insane when I am depressed or mixed but I barely notice it when I'm stable or hypomanic. I know exactly what you mean.

I don't find it weird at all. The mind and the body are very, very connected. Chronic pain is common with depression because of serotonin, etc. Yours is a vivid example, perhaps, of the reality of mental illness being a PHYSICAL illness.

Do you have anyone who can massage your back? They have a hydromassage at our gym and my son who also has chronic back pain says it feels good while he is lying on it but the effect doesn't last afterward.

My back pain is gone while manic/normal?

Hmm. I've noticed a feel achey when I'm depressed. Also I only experience hypo mania but when I do I'm not nearly as sensitive to lack of food, fatigue, headaches, etc, especially on the better swing of it. So I figure it extends to other types of pain too.

I hope your doctor has some remedies or exercises you can do to ease the pain. Good luck

I find my anxiety is high when I am depressed. This is not a good combination. I think this condition can tighten up muscles in those areas of the body and made them ache after awhile. Also the negative thoughts do not help.
