I have been suffering from bi-polar disorder mostly depressive for the last 35 years. I have been on regular medication. Now I am taking Olepra, Tegral & Remarone.
I have joined this community to get help on this illness. I would really appreciate tips and strategies from other people who suffer form the same illness. How do you overcome low mood? How do you develop positive thinking? How do you develop higher self esteem? How do you come out of depression? Looking forward to your helpful comments, tips and advice! |

Sorry to hear your suffer from primarily depressions. I have bipolar disorder and have been in a horrible depression since last August. Medication and therapy don't seem to be helping in the least. Good for you for hanging in there and looking for solutions! I think many pdocs are hesitant to prescribe antidepressants for bipolar folks at the risk of triggering mania. For me, the only time an antidepressant has triggered mania was when I foolishly went off my mood stabilizer at the same time.
I'm not clear on whether any of the medications you listed is an antidepressant. If not, you may want to discuss the possibility of going on one with your pdoc. Best of luck! |

I'm glad you joined pc. There are alot of supportive people here. Overcoming a low mood is hard. I usually keep things a as simple as possible. I can only handle working pt and im on ssd for my illness. I spend my time doing things that bring me joy. I read. I draw. I spend time with my two kitties. I go to therapy twice a week so it keeps me busy. I go to individual and a dbt group. That stands for dialectical behavior therapy. It gets yr brain out of emotional mind and brings yr wise mind in the forefront. It's where you use both yr emotional mind and yr logical mind which brings you to wise mind. With mi we tend to primarily be only in emotional mind. I can't explain it all here. You should look it up. It helps with low mood, gets you in more positive mindset, you develop higher self esteem at least I have. It's difficult to get out of a depressive episode. Regular therapy and visits to yr pdoc to get you on the right meds helps. Sometimes we just have to hang on and ride it out. But I would look up dbt. If yr town or therapist doesn't have a program for it then you can get a book about it. I wish you luck.
