Do you ever find yourself aggravated with your pdoc when youre feeling bad? I see the same Dr in the same clinic for a year now and when Im feeling bad (most of the time) she never really does anything. Im struggling with anger badly right now and she just suggested yoga. Shes the one who lent and suggested I read "An Unquiet Mind"

Ever get the feeling no one understands how you feel?

Yep. Last week when I was having major issues called pdoc for help and he told me he couldn't do anything. He wanted to give my med changes (the reason for my bad days according to him) time to take effect. "use therapy to get through this". Made me so mad.

Your psychiatrist and therapist work for you - not the other way around. If either should fail you, or if you no longer feel comfortable with their decisions/services, then it's time to move on to another who does meet your needs. I just dumped my last psychiatrist three months ago, because I was slipping into a deep depression and after a week's unreturned messages to her office and cell, she had the nerve to call my therapist with the message that "there's nothing I can do for him." I went to my PCP for help and he immediately prescribed medications that facilitated my rapid recovery. I can'y say it often enough, not everyone is responsible or competent in their field. If you suspect something is wrong, then 95% of the time you're right!

Yes! It is important to remember that your medical professionals work for you. You are allowed to, and sometimes need to, "fire" them and find new one/s.

I recently started to see a new pdoc after 7 years of frustration of my medical care. I always was told "I don't know what else to do for you" or "maybe you should go on long term disability." My absolute favorite was "are you grateful for what you have" Of course I am grateful, I wake up everyday saying to myself there are people out there that have it worse than me. Not only with pdocs I get this at work "you don't act like you have Bipolar or OCD" Well of course I'm not going to let you see the real me, I would lose my job. I just go around with a fake smile on my face. Anyways, you should switch doctors like me. I finally had enough and found a pdoc that knows what is going on in the medical world. Before I switched doctors I went thru 4 months of mania and several med. changes. My mania is mostly irritability, not impulsive gambling, etc. This new pdoc said to me on my first appt., this is what your mania is. He understands that every patient is different. I hope you make the decision to find a new pdoc., you need a pdoc. who is someone who knows your needs and is supportive.

How true this is! I find that most psychiatrists are rather lacking. Either they do not understand there medications well enough, or they do not aggressively pursue a treatment program for me. I find it a rare case where the doctor can do both. The only problem with my current doctor is that he is inaccessible to me much of the time. But his services and the meds have been for free. I guess I should have no complaints.

I've seen about 20 psychiatrists over the past few decades. Out of that 20, I'd say 3 were really talented. The rest...meh.

Say, "I don't feel as if we are connecting." It seems like you've stuck it out long enough. Try someone else.

Well I have to go to a University clinic so she actually leaves her time there next month and I wont be seeing her much longer. Then I will meet yet a new Dr...
