I'm an office manager. I love papers and deadlines, well, maybe I have to say "I used to love..."
I'm not enjoying anything lately but I've got another job offer for which I wouldn't have to think as much as I do at the current one (looking forward for some free mind time) but at the same time I'm feeling guilty about leaving my boss. He depends so much on me (and that turn out to be a burden sometimes) that I think the poor guys is gonna go bunkers when I tell him.
I don't know what to do and the anxiety this is giving me it's just not worth it.
Any ideas!

Trust me on this one -- your boss wouldn't hesitate to sell you down the river if it benefited him. Having had bosses I thought cared about me who then turned out only to care about anything BUT me, my hard-won advice is: Do what's best for YOU. If changing jobs will make you happier, then do it. No matter how indispensable he may tell you you are, the sad truth is, ain't nobody indispensable except possibly the person who founded the company.

Follow your heart and quit stressing. I'm on the edge here...

You need to do what is right for YOU, I know it's a tough situation, but self-preservation is so important.
Maybe somehow or someone here can help you prepare what you want to say or a way of putting it when you tell your present boss.
Indirectly, it is sort of for health reason(s), after all stress does not only have the ability of derailing us, but also makes the body physically ill in different ways, even weakens the immune system, several legitimate reasons for having the need to switch careers.
When a job starts interferring with our well being, it's time to move on.
I wish I had more to offer, it's been years since I was in a similar situation, and it's all foggy, but I did feel so much better, mentally and physically when I moved onto another job from one that really was getting to me.
All I know it felt like a huge weight was lifted off of me after I gave my "goodbye" notice, of course it was on good terms, I do know it probably wouldn't be if I stayed there longer.
Take care of yourself, and keep in mind it will be all in the past in time. Today becomes the past, tomorrow becomes the present and so the cycle continues.
I'm wishing you so much luck in whatever you decide.

Take care,
DE

Oh well, i'll keep you guys updated!

Oh candybear, you are so very right on that one, I've seen it happen to friends and family members.
One really has to concentrate on their own needs, if moving onto a different place to work brings one innerpeace, then a move is needed and should be made.
It's hard, when we do not wish to hurt others by leaving, but your survival in this world needs to be your major focus and drive.
Candy, excellent reply. I'm on the edge here...

OMG! It's amazing what a good night of sleep, support from hubby and friends and teeling my boss could do to you.
I feel so refresh today!!!
Well, last night after my hubby got home we got talking about the best way to tell my boss.
I needed to have a good rest, so I waited until this morning.
7:50 I was calling, I told him and even though I can feel the little stress he showed in his voice, he was OK, and {{{Candy}}} you are so right!!!
So, I'm off to my new job, today at 10:00 and I might still do some paperwork for him in the afternoons, but this feels so good and so right.
{{{Thanks everyone}}}

Everyone gave such GREAT advice! What a blessing that you aren't leaving the job by being fired or through throwing a fit about something! Good luck at your new job and keep us posted on everything. I'm on the edge here...

Congrats on your new job. I love the feeling of a new job. I've changed jobs (and careers) a lot and I think there's nothing better than the feeling of going from a job you're not happy with to one that's shiny and new and full of potential. It's relief and excitement at the same time. I hope you really like your new job.

Congrats and good luck to you!

I'm like Jon B.

I am always invigorated by new challenges. I changed jobs so many times, finally I became a consultant. And when things get dull, like they are with my current client, there is another opportunity waiting for me to look forward to.

Thank you so much guys!!! You have no idea how your support has helped me.
I started yesterday, great people, great place and I'm thrilled to have fresh air around.
My boss is ok about the whole thing, he asked me if I can help in the afternoon and I'm ok with that. To top it of, last night we (hubby and I) went to a great restaurant with a nice group of people we just met, I'm trying to work on my social anxiety this year, and I feel I have acomplished some of my fears, still feel wierd when going to a new place but way worth it.
Thanks again, and remember I'm here for anybody, PM me anytime~
